Leica is set to illuminate the art scene in Singapore with its ‘Celebration of Photography’ exhibition. Opening its doors at the prestigious ION Art Gallery on 18 November 2023, this event marks a dedicated exploration into the captivating world of photography, rooted in Leica’s legacy of telling powerful stories through imagery in the realm of Arts & Culture.
This year, the spotlight turns towards recognizing and celebrating women in photography. Titled ‘Her Lens, Her Narrative,’ the exhibition features the works of five incredibly talented female photographers. Hailing from diverse backgrounds, each artist brings a unique perspective to the world of photography, using their cameras as powerful instruments to narrate stories, evoke emotions, and shed light on different aspects of life.
The exhibition proudly showcases the works of two accomplished Singaporean photographers, Rebecca Toh and Michele Fong, alongside international talents: Daria Troitskaia from Russia, Nicole Tung from Hong Kong, and Shanghai-based photographer Teresa Qin.
Teresa Qin’s travel-centric photography has earned her accolades, with her work featured in prestigious publications and recognized by Leica Fotografie International (LFI) gallery as Master Shots.
Nicole Tung’s renowned coverage of social and conflict-related issues across continents is a testament to her impactful storytelling.
Daria Troitskaia, a fine-art and aerial photographer, brings a sense of adventure and a unique perspective to her work.
Rebecca Toh draws inspiration from music, literature, and storytelling, infusing her images with emotional depth and cinematic qualities.
Michele Fong’s macro photography, known for revealing intricate details, has already garnered acclaim, with her piece ‘Market Chaos’ named Picture of the Week in November 2019 by Leica Fotografie International (LFI) gallery.
The Celebration of Photography in Singapore goes beyond individual accomplishments. It honors legendary Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt with the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2023 and crowns a Picture of the Year for 2023, both showcasing the enduring impact of photographic storytelling.
Visitors will have an exclusive chance to witness innovation with a preview of three of Leica’s latest products. This includes the Leica Cine 1, the brand’s inaugural cinema TV, recipient of the iF Design Award 2023; the Leica SOFORT 2, a hybrid instant camera seamlessly merging digital and analogue photography; and the Leica ZM 11 collection, a stunning 41mm timepiece representing transformation, available in various elegant designs.
In tandem with the Celebration of Photography, Leica offers photography enthusiasts a chance to engage with experts and featured photographers through workshops and conversations. Priced at S$100 and S$20 respectively, these sessions create a platform for interaction, learning, and a deeper understanding of the art of photography.
The Leica Celebration of Photography is a public invitation to immerse yourself in the visual tapestry of stories and emotions, unfolding from 18 – 26 November 2023, at the ION Art Gallery.
