In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the Singapore pencak silat team emerged triumphant at two prestigious championships hosted by the United Arab Emirates Pencak Silat Federation. The events, namely the 7th Asian Pencak Silat Championship and the 1st Middle East Open Pencak Silat Championship, unfolded simultaneously from 9 – 12 November at the Rashid Bin Hamdan Hall, Al-Nasr Club, Oud Metha Dubai.
At the 7th Asian Pencak Silat Championship, where 11 countries fiercely competed, Singapore shone brightly, securing a total of 11 gold medals, 5 silvers, and 5 bronzes. This stellar performance propelled the national team to claim the overall championship title. Among the outstanding athletes, Sheik Ferdous Bin Sheik Alau’ddin from Singapore stood out, winning the Male Class I category (over 85kg-90kg) and earning the prestigious title of the event’s Best Athlete.
Simultaneously, Singapore’s dominance continued at the 1st Middle East Open Pencak Silat Championship. The team clinched an impressive total of 31 gold medals, 7 silvers, and 3 bronzes, reaffirming their status as overall champions. Aura Aydria Putri Binte Soffian, a formidable talent in the Junior Female <39 category, secured her victory and was rightfully honored as the Best Athlete of the Middle East Open Championship.
The Asian Pencak Silat Championship, inaugurated in Singapore in 2011, has grown to become one of the sport’s most significant competitions. Singapore’s consistent success is evident in the continuous increase in the country’s gold medal tally at each edition of the event. At the previous installment last year, the national team triumphed with nine gold medals, showcasing their relentless commitment to excellence.
The recent victories in the United Arab Emirates further solidify Singapore’s position as a powerhouse in pencak silat on the global stage. The athletes’ exceptional performance underscores the country’s dedication to the sport and its continuous efforts to raise the bar in competitive martial arts.
