The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), marked its 57th anniversary this year with a glittering celebration at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore, recognising outstanding contributions to the country’s development. Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, graced the event as the guest of honour, with over 1,000 attendees from industry, government, and academia.
Under the theme Engineering for a Sustainable Future, the 57th Annual Dinner emphasised IES’s commitment to advancing Singapore’s sustainable development. The inaugural IES Sustainability Awards recognized 10 engineering teams across three categories from 54 submissions:
These projects, aligned with the IES Green Plan 2030, are nominated for the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Awards 2023. IES President Mr. Dalson Chung expressed his encouragement for the vibrant engineering ecosystem in Singapore and emphasised the awards’ role in inspiring the younger generation.

This year, IES received a record 73 submissions across the categories, and these winning projects are also nominated for the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Awards 2023. Prof Yeoh Lean Weng, Emeritus President and Awards Committee Chairman of IES, praised the winners for their dedication to advancing national imperatives, from aerospace development to pandemic preparedness.
Prof Su Guaning, President Emeritus of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), received the IES Lifetime Engineering Achievement Award for his extraordinary contributions to the engineering industry. Prof Yeoh Lean Weng was conferred the title of IES Honorary Fellow for his significant contributions to the engineering profession.
IES awarded the IES Outstanding Partner Award 2023 to SMRT Corporation Ltd for their 35-year collaboration, contributing to Singapore’s engineering advancements through technological breakthroughs and the maturing of rail engineering capabilities.
The IES-Yayasan Mendaki Scholarship was awarded to Arshof Ahamed S/O Ansar Ahamed (NTU) and Natasha Arisqa Putri Shaiful Bahri (Temasek Polytechnic), supporting their outstanding academic performance in engineering.
