For nearly seven decades, the Leica M series has remained a cornerstone of iconic imagery and unparalleled authenticity since its inception in 1954. Renowned for its role in capturing history, especially in conflict zones, the Leica M cameras have consistently delivered remarkable photographs that have documented the world’s evolving narrative.
Now, Leica is setting new standards by introducing the world’s first camera of its kind, the Leica M11-P, equipped with built-in Content Credentials, setting a new standard for authenticity at the very moment of capture. The Leica M11-P seamlessly incorporates the global Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard, ensuring that each image is accompanied by secure metadata.
Here’s why this innovation is significant:
Metadata Matters: With the integration of C2PA, the Leica M11-P will store vital information such as camera make and model, as well as content-specific details like the identity of the image creator, the time it was taken, and the techniques used in capturing it.
Optional Feature: Content Credentials can be enabled at the discretion of the photographer or content creator, offering full control over this powerful feature.
Digital Signatures: Each image taken with the Leica M11-P can receive a unique digital signature, making it effortless to verify image authenticity. You can do this by visiting the Content Credentials Verification Portal or through the Leica FOTOS app.
This marks a substantial milestone for the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the future of photojournalism. The CAI, along with its members, embarked on this journey four years ago to bring transparency and authenticity to digital content. Think of Content Credentials as a “nutrition label” for digital content, offering insights into the content’s composition, including its name, date, time, and any edits made.
By incorporating Content Credentials directly into Leica cameras, the company is democratizing this technology, offering creators and consumers the power to verify the authenticity of images. It introduces a potent new tool for photojournalists and creatives to combat misinformation and maintain the integrity of their work.
The Leica M11-P features a 60-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and Triple Resolution Technology, along with a high-performance Maestro-III processor. This combination ensures cutting-edge camera technology with a maximum level of flexibility. Additionally, it comes with an ample internal memory of 256 GB, providing ample storage for your high-resolution images and videos.
The Leica M11-P will be available in both black and silver versions, and can be purchased globally at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorized dealers starting from October 26th. The release includes regions such as Europe, the Middle East, North America, Mexico, Greater China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
As for the pricing, the Leica M11-P will be priced at €8,950.00, including VAT (approximately $9,480 USD).
