Sip and Spook: The Dragon Chamber Presents “Shanghai Underground: Long Live the Dai Lo”

As the days grow shorter and the shadows longer, Halloween lurks around the corner. If you’re in search of a haunt that’s not your typical spooky experience, The Dragon Chamber has something sinisterly exciting in store for you. Join them for “Shanghai Underground: Long Live the Dai Lo,” a dining event like no other, filled with tales of brotherhood and betrayal.

Date & Time: 28 October 2023, 5 pm onwards

Building upon the success of their previous Shanghai-inspired event, The Dragon Chamber and Peddlers Gin invite you to their Halloween edition, “Long Live the Dai Lo.” This time, the speakeasy transforms into a gang-horror-themed abode, where you can pay your respects to The Dragon Chamber’s former leader while indulging in delectable meals and drinks.

Before you enter this world of secrets through an inconspicuous refrigerator door, prepare your soul with a welcome ritual involving a mandatory shot. The dining experience begins in the early evening from 5 pm to 10 pm, and later, a special supper menu takes over from 10 pm onwards. You’ll find yourself dining alongside a solemn coffin centrepiece, adorned with funeral fittings for those brave enough to take a photo. In keeping with Chinese “consolation” feasts, you can order the Tiger Triad Combo, featuring supper-friendly bites such as Mala Fries, Firecracker Chicken, and Cheeseburger Rolls.

As the night deepens, the atmosphere shifts to a celebration of the afterlife, featuring limited edition Halloween cocktails. The “Black Heart” stands out with its Peddlers gin, Amaro Montenegro, grapefruit base, and a white chrysanthemum flower, a nod to tradition. For those seeking an extra kick, try the “Blood for Blood,” combining Peddlers salted plum gin and coffee liqueur. All this takes place while the soundtrack transports you to the era loved by the late Dai Lo.

And what’s Halloween without some spooky attire? Join the Best Dressed competition for a chance to win the grand prize: a 2D1N stay at the stunning Duxton Room at the newly opened Mondrian Singapore Duxton. Runner-up prizes include bottles of Peddlers Gin and $100 worth of drink-and-dine vouchers for your return visits.

Halloween-inspired drinks are available from 24 – 31 October.

The Dragon Chamber introduces a brand-new cocktail program, with 7 sensational cocktails showcasing Asian influences. Discover the “Dragon’s Eye,” inspired by Cheng Teng, featuring longan tea, dark rum, date syrup, and a hint of peated whiskey mist. Dive into the “Bangkok Breeze,” capturing the tangy and spicy essence of Thailand’s hot and sour soup. Or sip on the “Bakkwa Old Fashioned” for a smoky, sweet, and savory experience.

All “Shanghai Underground” events are open to the public, and while reservations are encouraged, walk-ins for drinks are welcome anytime.
