Sports enthusiasts, get ready for another thrilling year of competition and athletic prowess as Under Armour announces the return of UA COMBINE for its second edition. Building on the success of last year’s debut, this fitness competition, one of the largest in the region, is back to establish the ultimate benchmark for athlete performance.
In its inaugural year, UA COMBINE drew a staggering 1,200 participants from across four countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia. This year, the competition promises to be even bigger and more exciting, as athletes from various sports and training disciplines gather at the iconic Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. They will push their limits, compete against their peers, and vie for a generous total cash prize pool of SGD$17,000.
One of the notable changes for this year’s event is the lowering of the entry age, with athletes aged 16 to 18 now encouraged to compete. These young talents have a chance to win a one-year Under Armour product sponsorship worth SGD$1,500 for the top male and female youths, inspiring and nurturing the next generation of athletes.
The UA COMBINE 2023 is set to take place on 21 October 2023. Every participant will receive a full set of Under Armour competitor gear on the event day.
The UA COMBINE will challenge competitors in eight physical and mental tests devised by Under Armour’s Global Head of Athlete Performance, Michael Watts. These tests encompass agility, stamina, vertical jump, power, endurance, strength, speed, and cognition.
Points will be awarded for each completed test, and athletes will be ranked based on their overall performance. The top male and female athletes will receive medals and cash prizes of S$5,000, S$2,500, and S$1,000 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place positions in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Here’s an overview of the eight tests:
This year’s UA COMBINE introduces significant improvements to several of the tests to better define athletic performance. For instance, the standing vertical leap test now employs forceplates to accurately measure an individual’s upward propulsion force, providing a more precise assessment of vertical jumping ability. Additionally, the cognition station features the Reactive Intelligence Wall, the same technology used by professional athletes in Formula 1 and the NBA.
Participants must tap as many blue pods as possible in 30 seconds, measuring reaction time, decision-making, and attention skills.
Represent Your Fitness Community
UA COMBINE encourages participants to form groups of four and compete both individually and as a team. The team’s score is calculated based on the scores of each individual member. The highest-scoring team will earn SGD$2,000 worth of Under Armour gear, promoting camaraderie and community spirit.
Train-to-Compete with UFit Singapore
To help participants prepare and improve their performance, Under Armour has partnered with UFIT Singapore to offer exclusive training sessions for those registered for UA COMBINE in Singapore. These training sessions will provide valuable insights and fitness tips, ensuring that competitors are ready to give their best on the big day.
