Singaporean travelers heading to China have reason to rejoice as the convenience of cashless payments just got even better. Thanks to a strategic partnership between Changi Airport Group (CAG), Liquid Group, and Ant Group, Singapore residents can now utilize the Changi Pay digital wallet to make purchases with ease during their trips to China.
Changi Pay’s latest offering is the result of a collaboration that seamlessly merges the strengths of Changi Airport Group, Liquid Group, and Ant Group. Changi Pay, initially introduced in 2021 through the partnership of CAG and Liquid Group, now incorporates Liquid Group-issued Liquid accounts, allowing users to access the vast Alipay+ ecosystem. This means that Singaporeans can now use Changi Pay to make payments at tens of millions of merchants across China.
In China, mobile payments using QR codes have become the norm, overshadowing traditional cash or card transactions. Changi Pay users can now tap into this trend, enjoying secure and convenient payments while abroad. Moreover, they benefit from favorable exchange rates and avoid transaction fees often associated with overseas credit card use. As an added bonus, users who utilize Changi Pay for payments in China will receive e-vouchers, redeemable when they return to shop at Changi Airport, making every transaction more rewarding.
The key to this newfound convenience lies in Alipay+, a suite of global cross-border payment and marketing solutions operated by Ant Group. Alipay+ seamlessly accepts digital payments from e-wallets, bank apps, and buy-now-pay-later apps at millions of participating merchants worldwide, all part of the Alipay+ ecosystem. This service is not limited to China; it is widely accepted in popular travel destinations such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and many others.
To make the most of this payment solution, Singapore residents can activate Changi Pay by downloading the Changi App and linking it to their Singapore-registered mobile number. To enable Changi Pay for transactions in China, users must complete a one-time verification process via Singpass to link their Liquid account with their Changi Pay account. New users who top up S$50 into their Liquid account in Changi Pay will receive a generous S$40 off on iShopChangi purchases.
As an added incentive, Changi Pay users who make three transactions, each with a minimum value of RMB100, in China can take advantage of a limited-time promotion. They will receive two S$5 Changi Pay e-vouchers for use at Changi Airport’s Lotte Duty Free and other participating merchants at Changi Airport, Jewel Changi Airport, and on iShopChangi.com.
Currently, Changi Pay is widely accepted at close to 70% of outlets across Changi Airport’s terminals and Jewel, offering Singaporean travelers a seamless and rewarding payment experience both at home and abroad.
