Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. and the iconic apparel brand UNIQLO have joined forces to present the 2023 Youth with Refugees Art Contest, in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR. This exceptional event marks the third edition of the contest, and it’s all about channeling creativity to make a tangible impact.
This year’s contest carries a powerful theme: “Hope away from home.” And the best part? Artists from around the globe, amateurs and professionals aged 10 to 30, are invited to channel their creativity and illustrate what hope means to them. The canvas knows no bounds, and the message of hope transcends borders. The contest extends a warm invitation to young refugee artists to participate as well.
The chosen designs will be transformed into exclusive t-shirt collections, available at select UNIQLO stores. What’s more, 100% of the proceeds from these sales will be channeled into UNHCR’s assistance programs that span the globe.
The inception of the Youth with Refugees Art Contest took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering young minds a powerful platform to contribute positively to those affected by displacement. With each passing year, the contest has grown, attracting thousands of participants and igniting a wave of creativity and compassion. The second edition saw award-winning designs transforming into ethically manufactured footballs, with the proceeds supporting refugee sport programs. Beyond just raising awareness, the contest empowers young refugee artists to find their voice and purpose after escaping conflict.
International Day of Peace, observed annually on 21 September, is the perfect occasion to extend a hand of solidarity to refugees. In conjunction with this, UNIQLO is hosting a special art workshop at the kids’ library within UNIQLO Jewel Changi Airport on 23 September, from 4 PM to 5.30 PM.
This 90-minute workshop is more than just art; it’s an opportunity to understand the challenges faced by refugees and how each one of us can make a difference. The session will include an insightful talk, shedding light on the refugee crisis and ways to support them globally. As a participant, you’ll then have the chance to create artwork centered around the theme of peace, using the art materials provided. If you’re eligible for the Youth with Refugees Art Contest, you can even scan and register your completed creation.
To be a part of this impactful workshop, all you need to do is fill this sign-up form.
