Raffles Hotel Singapore takes immense pride in announcing the launch of its highly anticipated third iteration of the Writer’s Residency program. Having first captured hearts in 2019, this unique program serves to rekindle the hotel’s illustrious literary heritage, paying homage to its rich tradition of hosting and inspiring world-renowned writers such as Rudyard Kipling, Somerset Maugham, and Joseph Conrad. Now, Raffles Hotel Singapore welcomes the latest appointed Singaporean writer and poet, Madeleine Lee, to the prestigious Writer’s Residency.
The Writer’s Residency program invites gifted writers to indulge in the colonial architectural elegance of Raffles Hotel Singapore. This serene haven offers the perfect ambience for reflection, contemplation, and drawing inspiration from the hotel’s 136-year-old treasure trove of stories as the writers pen their literary masterpieces.
This year’s Writer’s Residency program proudly features Madeleine Lee, an award-winning investment manager and poet, who also held the position of Singapore Botanic Garden’s Writer-in-Residence from 2014 to 2015. Madeleine’s poetry collection, titled ‘How to Build a Lux Hotel,’ beautifully articulates overheard conversations, meaningful interactions, and observations made during her various stays within the storied halls of Raffles Hotel Singapore. The accompanying photos, captured by Madeleine herself, offer readers a captivating visual journey that brings her words to life.
‘How to Build a Lux Hotel’ is now available for purchase both online and in-store at Raffles Boutique for S$35, giving enthusiasts a chance to delve into the mesmerizing world of Raffles through Madeleine’s poetic lens.
In celebration of the written word and Madeleine’s literary achievements, Writers Bar at Raffles Hotel Singapore introduces a refreshing and imaginative menu. Conceptualized and handcrafted by Nicholas Alexander, Beverage Manager of Raffles Hotel Singapore, these new cocktails are a tribute to the literary greats who once graced the hotel’s legendary corridors.
