[Review] Green Monday celebrates 10-year anniversary this year with OmniSeafood retail launch in Singapore

Green Monday Group, an award-winning social venture, sustainability champion and creators of OmniFoods, celebrates a decade of driving their mission for sustainable living worldwide this year.

Earlier in March, to commemorate their anniversary alongside Earth Month 2022, Green Monday announced launched their OmniSeafood retail line, along with a slew of other promotions.

OmniFoods is the first brand in Asia to create a range of seafood analogues, OmniSeafood:

Omni Golden Fillet has been chosen as a winner of Silver Quality Awards in Monde Selection 2022, which is comparable to the quality stars of a hotel or ratings in the Michelin Guide. Founded in Brussels in 1961, Monde Selection’s independent judges now review over 3000 products each year. These are sent from more than 80 countries worldwide. The independent panel of experts grant awards based on the quality of the product.

Following their successful launch on the menu at Green Common Singapore in November 2021, OmniSeafood items are now available for Singaporean customers to take home.

Omni Classic Fillet, Omni Golden Fillet are priced at $8.50 each and OmniTuna at $4.95, available for retail at the Green Common concept store and café at Vivo City, Redmart and select NTUC stores.

We tried out their prized Golden Fillet and whipped up a simple meal in our own kitchen to enjoy in the comfort of our own home:

Verdict?

The fillet does taste like the fried fish fillet we are used to when we order Fish & Chips in restaurants. The batter is crisp and the plant-based fish meat is close to the real thing, except it is cleaner in taste, without the fishiness.

For those who like their fish fillet to have a consistent texture and an even taste, this actually works as a good sustainable alternative.

We tried their Classic Fillet and OmniTuna as well. We enjoyed the former which is a version of the Golden Fillet without the fried batter coating while the latter is a bit too bland for our liking (those who do not like the typical oily, fishy taste of canned tuna will probably enjoy this).

The items are all easy-to-prepare and cook fast. They come ready-to-eat and you can simply pop in into an air-fryer, pan-fry them or just heat it up in the microwave after defrosting.
