[Review] BAR.CELONA at Battery Road – Spanish Tapas and Cava by the Singapore River waterfront

If you look Spanish cuisine, you probably would have heard of Bar.Celona and their chain of Tapas and Cava F&B outlets in Singapore.

With three locations within the CBD, each outlet brings a different charm that embodies Spain. The first outlet at Bukit Pasoh takes on a colonial approach with its classy decorated interiors, whereas the second outlet at Roberston Quay features a minimalistic yet spacious indoor and outdoor seating for a more a casual setting.

Bar.Celona’s third and latest outlet at Battery Road lies along Singapore River, serving up Spanish Tapas and Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) by the waterfront. You can choose to enjoy your meal outdoor on the ground floor to people watch or in an indoor, cosier setting on the second floor:

We went for a dinner tasting at Bar.Celona’s Battery Road outlet and these were the items we sampled:

Grilled baby octopus in tomato sauce with house spices – $17
Langoustine Mediterranean style – $28
Crab, avocado salsa and grapefruit tostadas – $22
Jamon truffle croquette – $15
Albondigas meatball – $20
Cheese platter: Mahon, quesa con trafu, goat cheese, quince jam – $30
Cured meat platter: jamon serrano, jamon bellota, salchicon, chorizo – $36
Steak tenderloin with broccolini and romesco – $24
Braised beef cheeks with coffee veal jus – $25
Stuffed Piquillo peppers with goat cheese – $15

I love the sharing aspect of Spanish food, filled with small and large plates to go around the table so you can savour a bit of everything. Looking at the menu spread at Bar.Celona got me all excited. The menu featured iconic Spanish dishes like grilled octopus, piquillo peppers, jamon croquette, meatballs and braised beef cheeks, as well as Bar.Celona’s own crowd favourites like their fresh oysters with homemade coctail sauce – on promotion every Tuesday and Saturday nights at $28 for a dozen.

The standout dishes were the two seafood dishes, bringing in the freshness of the Mediterrean sea, cooked with an assortment of spices and herbs.

I brought my son, Asher, along for this dinner tasting and he enjoyed the meal thoroughly. He is a light and fussy eater but between the two of us, we gobbled up every last morsel of everything you see here:

Prices range from $12 to $15 for their cold tapas and from $15 to $28 for their hot tapas. Sharing platters start from $30. I would advice to come with more people so you can order a large variety of their tapas to share.

For drinks, Bar.Celona is famed for ther Cava selection, featuring the largest variety of Cava in Singapore. Saving on cost with direct importation and the elimination of middlemen, Cava are available at all outlets from as low as $8 per glass or $35 per bottle.

Visit the official website for details on reservations and to see the full menus.
