Inspired by the humble love of mothers who love us to the core, Co-founders Tan Zhuo Guan and Glenn Lai of Humble Bakery deftly recreate their signature original scones with a core – mochi and flavours from the good old days – that Singaporeans of all ages can resonate with.
Stemming from a simple core belief that love is humble, Humble Bakery was conceived in late 2021 to bring smiles and happiness to people around us through their artisanal scones and signature burnt cheesecakes.
This Mother’s Day, Artisan Bakers Glenn and Guan who are at the helm of Humble Bakery, would like to spread happiness to all the mothers and grandmothers with their specially created bake box SO MOCHI JOY – laden with 6 Chinese ‘Piah’-inspired, mochi-filled scones.
There are three old-school favourite flavours featured – Muah Chee Mochi Scones, Orh Nee Mochi Scones and Matcha Red Bean Mochi Scones.
We totally fell in love with the Muah Chee Mochi Scone and would happily order a box with all six of the same flavour next time. Crunchy and crisp on the outside, soft and sticky on the inside, the texture and flavours packed into these little pastries are amazing.
The SO MOCHI JOY Box, is retailing at $28.80 with 6 scones in the three flavours (2 scones for each flavour) from now till 31 May 2022.
Muah Chee mochi scones – Once popularised by push-cart vendors and enjoyed in pasar malam settings, the humble muah chee (glutinous rice dough and crushed peanuts) is a rare sight now.
Orh Nee Mochi Scones – Orh Nee is a quintessential old-school Teochew dessert well-loved by many. A delightful fusion of East meets West, the smooth orh nee (taro or yam) paste with its chewy mochi core encased in original scone pastry seeks to bring comfort to all ages.
Matcha Red Bean Mochi Scones – Matcha and red bean have always been paired harmoniously in Japanese desserts. Escape to Japan momentarily with this combination of fragrant red bean paste encased in a Kyoto matcha scone pastry and studded with a morsel of sticky, chewy brown sugar mochi in the centre.
Here is a celebratory cheesecake that is not only beautiful but tasty as well.
The duo who paired up as buddies in daily cheesecake baking (when they were ex-colleagues in Bakery Brera) decided to give their best to all Mothers with their lovely rendition of Strawberry Rose Burnt Cheesecake.
Adorned with a pink ribbon, the burnt cheesecake is accentuated with rose water, topped with a generous spread of rose red-hued handmade strawberry jam and embellished with a sprinkle of rose petals. The caramelised scorched crown that encases a meltingly soft centre can be enjoyed in two ways – served chilled or as an ‘ice-cream’ cheesecake (when frozen).
We tried it both ways and prefer the chilled version. Seeing the cheese seeps as you cut into the cake was delightful, with each spoonful melting in your mouth.
Made with premium ingredients such as imported vanilla bean paste, Nielsen Massey Rosewater, Elle et Vire Whipping Cream and 4 cheeses namely Mascarpone cheese and other cream cheeses including Philadelphia Cream Cheese, the Strawberry Rose Burnt Cheesecake is available in 7-inch size at $57.
You can also get a bundled set ($73.80) comprising both the Strawberry Rose Burnt Cheesecake (6-inch) and So Mochi Joy Box from now till Mother’s Day, 8 May (Perfect for social gatherings of up to 10 people).
