As a student or first jobber, you have just stepped into the world of adulting, and will be eager to save your first pot of gold.
There are many different financial products out there which can be complicated and confusing.
Here is a simple and safe way to save and earn at the same time, with insurance coverage as well. Now, that is killing three birds with one stone, a bona fide #MoneyHack.
Introducing Dash PET, an insurance savings plan from Singtel and Etiqa Insurance. Here are three key features of Dash PET:
You will not make any losses. You are guaranteed to get the amount you put into Dash PET back.
No need to worry about market fluctuations due to global developments such as the ongoing Ukraine crisis. Sleep peacefully knowing that your money is safe.
Dash PET is protected by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation (SDIC).
Dash PET provides 1.5%*^ p.a. up to your first $10,000. This is better, astronomically better, than the typical 0.05% p.a. or less you might be getting from saving your money with the ”usual suspects”.
Say you decide to milk the most out of this 1.5%*^ p.a. interest rate that is currently the best in the market, and put in a full $$10,000 – after a year (assuming you keep the balance consistent), you would have gained $150, which is a lot of money for doing nothing at all.
So, how to get 1.5%*^ p.a. with Dash PET?
Okay while it feels like doing nothing, technically, you do have to do something – i.e., activate the free protection – to enjoy 1.5%*^ p.a. Remember that Dash PET is an insurance savings plan? This is where the insurance part comes in.
If you choose not to activate the free protection, you’ll get 1.3%* p.a. for your first $10,000, which is actually already VERY attractive for a guaranteed capital product with no lock-in period.
But, there is really no reason not to activate the free protection when it’s free and gives you extra 0.2%^ p.a. returns. Activating the rider is easy to do within the Dash app, and you get solid and good benefits in return:
Dash PET offers free COVID-19 coverage (including vaccine side effects) for as long as you keep your Dash PET account active (defined by having a minimum balance of $50). This COVID-19 coverage is granted automatically once you sign up for Dash PET, there is no extra action needed from you.
In addition, Dash PET offers free first-year insurance coverage up to 5X of account value (cap at S$50,000) for Death & Total and Permanent Disability, or Accidental Death (if user is not eligible for the former). To get this free protection, just activate the free protection, which is easily done within the Dash app.
Get additional coverage
Meanwhile, if you want additional insurance coverage, you can consider topping-up for protection against Major Cancer, Accidental Death, Death & Total and Permanent Disability for coverage of up to $100,000 per plan.
For each plan you add on, you will earn additional interest of up to 0.25%# p.a. on your first $10,000 savings. Bonus returns are stackable, i.e. you can get up to 0.75%# p.a. returns on top of your Dash PET crediting rates by activating the 3 payable add-on protection. This can add up to a total of 2.25%*^# p.a. for your first $10,000 savings.
The premium for each plan can be as low as 2 cents a day (based on theprofile of a 17-year-old female non-smoker). Your exact profile will be generated after you fill in questions on your basic information and lifestyle within the Dash app.
In addition to the base Dash PET plan which lets you save and earn together with other add-on protection plan, Dash PET Plus is freshly launched for those who are seeking potentially higher returns beyond saving with Dash PET.
The underlying funds within the ILP are managed by UOB Asset Management (UOBAM) to aim for stable, long term returns that may potentially beat the base plan rates. You also get to choose between reinvesting your dividends or cashing it out (to your Dash PET account).
You may consider it as an option to diversify and grow your money while still holding on to the capital guaranteed Dash PET monies. Do note that this is still considered an investment, and your capital and returns are not guaranteed. There is also death benefit and Terminal Illness, where the maximum aggregate payable for Terminal Illness is S$5 million per life insured for all policies and riders issued by Etiqa.

Just start with $50
You can open a Dash PET account with just $50. Great for those who may not have large sums at the ready. The maximum you can top-up in Dash PET is S$30,000.
There is also no fall-below penalty to worry about, or any other spending criteria to meet.
Best** interest rates, 100% flexibility
You enjoy the generous 1.5%*^ p.a. or 1.3%* p.a. (if you do not activate the rider) for any amount you put in starting from the minimum S$50 to S$10,000. Unlike other financial products which require you to lock-in your money for a certain period of time in order to enjoy such competitive interest rates, Dash PET allows you to withdraw your money anytime with no penalty, giving you 100% flexibility.
Any amount you save above the first S$10,000 gets 0.3%* p.a.
Option to earn potentially higher returns with ILP
The new ILP rider, Dash PET Plus, offers more ways to diversify and grow your wealth by investing in funds managed by UOBAM. Whilst it’s not capital guaranteed, it offers the same flexibility to top up and withdraw anytime, and even lets you choose to cash out your dividend earnings or reinvest them.
Signing up for Dash PET is super easy. Download the Singtel Dash app if you don’t already have it, click on ‘Grow Money’ tile, and fill up the application form.
Next, activate the account by transferring a minimum of S$50 into it. You can do it via Dash Wallet, PayNow, or Internet banking (eNets).
The whole process is seamless and I completed it in mere minutes in bed and PJs. I liked that I did not need to meet with anyone and worry about facing any hard-selling.

You should seek advice from a financial adviser before deciding to purchase the policy. If you choose not to seek advice, you should consider if the policy is suitable for you.
