What a surprise when I opened up this box from Bee Cheng Hiang:
Three boxes of Bee Cheng Hiang Bakkwa Ice Cream (美珍香肉干香草雪糕 in Twin Packs!
While it seems like a weird combination, the sweet vanilla ice cream actually goes well with the savoury bakkwa chunks.
They are currently retailing at selected Bee Cheng Hiang outlets (listed below), NTUC Fairprice and Sheng Shiong supermarkets. Each Twin Pack is priced at $10.25 and offers two cups of Bakkwa Ice Cream like this:
At S$5+ a small cup, it is on the pricey side and would be a bit of a gourmet treat for store-bought ice cream. For the novelty, it would work and probably for people who really love bakkwa as well. I can see how this will fly off the shelves during the Chinese New Year period, but maybe not so much on regular days.
