If you like either Laksa or Pao Fan (泡饭) or better still, both, you have got to try this Laksa Pao Fan from Chili Padi Group. Touted to the Singapore’s first Laksa Pao Fan, the unique fusion of a traditional hawker favourite (laksa) and a recent hawker food trend (pao fan) seeks to offer the best of both worlds.
The Chili Padi Group is an established Peranakan cuisine food services company in Singapore, tracing its origins to 1997 with the opening of Chilli Padi Nonya Restaurant in the Tiong Bahru residential district. From those modest beginnings, Chilli Padi’s operations have grown to include events catering (Chilli Api Catering), cafeteria management (Chilli Padi Nonya Catering) and dine-in restaurants (Chilli Padi Nonya Restaurant and Chilli Padi Nonya Café). The group was later acquired by ABR Holdings, the owner and operator of Swensen’s ice cream restaurants in Singapore.
The Laksa Pao Fan dish is the brainchild of Chili Padi’s founder, Patricia Lee. Each set consists of steamed white rice, whole prawns, battered fish fillets, pacific clams, seafood beancurd rolls (crabsticks wrapped in beancurd skin), sliced fishcakes, quail eggs, and Chilli Padi’s housemade lemak laksa broth. Also included are shredded laksa leaves, egg floss and rice crisps to garnish.
Each set retails for S$68 and can easily serve a small family of four to six persons.
With their catering expertise, the set is delivered hot and neatly packed in a heater bag, with ingredients packed separately, to ensure you enjoy your food fresh at the optimal temperature. Biodegradable corn-ware cutlery and bowls are provided in a nod to sustainability. Reheating instructions are provided with simple, step-by-step instructions to ensure you assemble and reheat the laksa pao fan to perfection.
I am a fan of both laksa and pao fan and enjoyed the dish very much. These two hawker favourites go very well together and it is a wonder why the fusion was not conceived earlier. Thank you Chili Padi for coming up with this!
Orders for Laksa Pao Fan may be placed online or via Chilli Padi’s catering hotline (+65 6340 1042).
