The Best Travel Locations on a Budget

Sometimes getting away and seeing the world can be an uncontrollable urge, but your wallet may disagree with your desire. Fortunately, there are a number of spots around the world that are gorgeous and well-suited for travelers who are on a budget.

As a general tip, no matter where you go, staying in hostels or other cheap accommodation is a unique way to truly experience the locating while saving some money. With that in mind, here are some of the best places to visit while keeping yourself on a budget:

1. Laos, Asia

Not an often talked about travel location, Laos is a gorgeous destination to travel to when working with a budget. Most activities in this location are cheap and accommodation, whether in a hostel or hotel, will be far cheaper than those in other countries.

Additionally, Laos features something to do for all interests. With beautiful hiking locations and exciting local activities, this location is a must-visit.

2. Vietnam

Vietnam is known for its healthy and cheap food options, as well as the low cost of accommodations. For those who wish to explore on their own, consider purchasing a motorbike for the day at a low price or simple walk around the new sights. Vietnam is a location where getting involved in the local culture is quite easy, so take part in street vending and any other local activities that may be available at a low cost.

3. Indonesia

Indonesia isn’t often thought about as a cheap travel location, but it can be depending on what activities and accommodation is selected. Determine what you want to do and aim to take local transportation when you visit to have the best chance of a cheaper experience. For ocean lovers and those who enjoy a good hike, backpack out of the city centers and explore the outside of the country a little bit more.

4. Nepal

Nepal is the country avid hikers and travelers go to when they are looking to get outdoors and get exercise. However, it is a cheap travel destination and can make for an unforgettable trip when planned right. Do adequate research on accommodations and seek out cheap, but freshly cooked meals from cafes and other local restaurants. Without a doubt, you can easily spend less than $100 USD in Nepal if you budget your time, food, and housing wisely.

5. Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the most famous locations for cheap street food that will leave your full and content. As with Vietnam, Taiwan has bikes that can be rented for a low cost which allows you to reduce transportation expenses by a wide margin. Taking these bikes around cities in this country is a great way to visit new sights while also saving money.

Additionally, housing can be cheap as well depending on the options you select. Do research and find cheap, yet nice, hostels that will do for the nights you are there.

6. Mexico

In general, Mexico is a cheap country to visit and has beach resorts. These resorts are still more expensive that the rest of Mexico, though, so if you truly want a cheap experience, consider going away from the tourist areas and exploring Mexico City or other amazing destinations of the country.

The favorable exchange rate between the US dollar and the peso makes accommodation, food, and activities cheaper than many other countries, which can make for a great trip.

In travel, it’s worth noting that people can become nervous being on their own. Sites such as: https://www.mind-diagnostics.org/blog/agoraphobia touch on why and how agoraphobia can impact travel. If you believe you fall into this category, seek assistance from a professional prior to booking any tickets.

Travel can be expensive but learning how to plan an exciting and successful trip in the confines of a budget is more than possible. Budgeting properly and thorough planning of a trip before departure are key ways of ensuring your trip is successful and aligns with your spending goals.
