More than a week has passed since 29-year-old Jonathan Long, the driver of a second-hand BMW M4 coup, took himself and his friends on their final ride that ended in heartbreaking tragedy in Tanjong Pagar.
In the early hours of February 13, five friends squeezed themselves into Long’s BMW that he purchased months ago. Most of them wanted a ride home but were unable to get one at that time, which was around 5:30 in the morning. Long offered to take them and drop them off somewhere were they may get better luck with finding a cab.
According to various reports, the 29-year-old boyfriend of Raybe Oh Siew Huey was a senior financial services adviser at Aviva Financial Advisers.
His social media profiles said he graduated from RMIT University at the SIM Global Education campus with an economics and finance degree.
He and Oh had been in a relationship for an unreported number of years, with his girlfriend enjoying a close relationship with his family. They had allegedly applied to buy a flat together.
In a previous report by Alvinology, Long’s father mentioned that he was hoping Oh would pull through, as he considered her a daughter.
Two of Long’s passengers have been identified as Gary Wong Hong Chieh, 29, and Eugene Yap, 29. Wong and Long were long-time friends, according to social media posts.
The two other passengers who died in the crash were Elvin Tan Yong Hao, 28, and Teo Qi Xiang, 26.
The other victims, aside from Oh, were also financial advisers at the same firm with Long, with Yap also being one of the founders of Bober Tea here in Singapore.
All of the deceased victims of the Tanjong Pagar crash have been cremated. Hao and Yap, 29, had been cremated on Feb. 18, while the youngest of the victims, Xiang, was cremated on Feb. 17. Long and Wong were cremated on February 19.
Oh was reportedly still in the hospital, fighting for her life.
Flowers and offerings have been left at the scene of the tragedy, according to The Straits Times.
A previous report by Alvinology featured a video clip from E3N Security that showed Long’s white BMW spinning out of control on Tanjong Pagar Road. It hit the front of a vacant shophouse and caught fire 15 seconds after. The blaze then engulfed the vehicle.
Friends of the victims (including Oh) rushed to the scene to help them, and Oh dived right into the blaze to try and one of the car doors open to save her boyfriend and any of them still alive.
She suffered massive burns as she caught on fire, and an extended cut of the leaked video showed her walking away from the fire and falling to her knees as her friends tried to help her too.
Reports said that she was taken to the hospital still lucid despite 80% of her body being severely burned.
