Probably to clone the success of their super popular Afternoon Tea at sister restaurant, Anti:dote at Fairmont Singapore, Prego, the well-loved Italian restaurant at Fairmont Singapore has also launched an Afternoon Tea, with a Prego Gentlemen’s Tea catered for the lads.
We find the concept of a Gentlemen’s Tea to be extremely enticing, so, my son Asher and I headed to Prego over the weekend to sample it together for a father-son bonding session over tea and some gentlemen’s treats.
Though named as a Gentlemen’s Tea, the menu is not restricted to men only and ladies are welcome to order it as well in a gender-inclusive world.
The newly launched Prego Gentlemen’s Tea menu is a reinvention of classic afternoon delights, swapping traditional tiered nibbles like finger sandwiches for hearty steak pies and meaty sandwiches, offering a flavourful selection of Italian delights designed for a discerning palate.
Prego’s Head Chef Mauro Sanna draws inspiration from his Italian roots to present a delectable offerings of Salato (savoury) and Dolce (sweet) items.
Only available on the last Friday of the month, the Gentlemen’s Tea also includes a glass of the award-winning Scotch Single Malt whisky Glenmorangie Lasanta.
Tuck into a delectable selection of Italian afternoon fare across three courses, starting with Salato (savuory) options like the Pasticcio di manzo in crosta, a baked beef pie, and Salsiccia casereccia con salsa di miele e pepperoncino, a garlic sausage with pickled gherkin and chilli jam.
Chef Sanna is very proud of his home-made sausage which is painstakingly constructed from scratch and this is rightfully so as it is moist, tender and melts in your mouth. The hearty portion steak pie is not an item which would be featured in dainty high tea menus, but it fits well for a Gentlemen’s Tea. I certainly appreciate the large serving!
Next up are the hearty sandwiches Brioche con prosciutto affumicato e cheddar, or smoked ham and gorge cheddar and brioche, and Minuta di manzo Stanbroke, salsa al pomodoro e cipolla, or steak and chimichurri on sourdough. Again, love the home-made smoked ham from Chef Sanna’s kitchen.
The meal is concluded with Dolce (sweets) treats like the Sigari di cioccolato amaro, or bitter chocolate cigars, and Macaron di mandorle al caffe’ macchiato, or a coffee macchiato macaron. The standout item is the chocolate cigars which is actually a chocolate version of the classic Italian cannoli.
And of course, like all other Afternoon Tea, tea is served, with a side of scones. Instead of whipped cream, the scones are paired with homemade apple jam.
The Prego Gentlemen’s Tea is priced at $68++ and comes with a choice of TWG Tea or a selection of coffee, as well as a single pour of Glenmorangie Lasanta.
