This is the only Yusheng we sampled this year which features beef in their Chinese New Year (CNY) Yusheng dish. In fact, this is the first time we have ever tried a Yusheng featuring beef. Kudos to the culinary team at Golden Peony restaurant at Conrad Centennial Singapore for their adventurous spirit to introduce something different and iconic in the Year of the Ox for this year’s CNY.
Toss to new heights with Golden Peony’s Fortune Ox Yu Sheng (S$168 per portion) that features tender strips of pan-fried Wagyu Beef served with seasonal greens, complemented with homemade sour plum sauce:
For those who prefer a vegetarian Yu Sheng, the restaurant also serves mock salmon made from salmon that seriously looks like the real deal:
Other than the Yu Sheng, here are some of the other dishes we sampled off their CNY menu:
This was an interesting start to the meal with a palate opener that features spices typically used in Indian cuisine, presented in a Western plating with a Chinese-style duck dish.
A smaller whole abalone sits atop a puff pastry for extra crunch, while the sliced abalone is rolled round asparagus stalks so you can eat it as one item.
The rich Pen Cai features all the luxurious ingredients that are used in CNY feasts and presented in a Mughal cuisine style clay ware.
With ingredients like saffron and cumin, this stewed lamb rack packed the strong flavours of Indian fine dining, yet presented in a Western style for a Chinese menu.
The fish is cooked two-ways to showcase the culinary skills of the culinary team, with one sweet and one spicy to tease your palate.
This is another opulent dish, apart from the Yu Sheng, that was star for the night. The Roasted Suckling Pig with Seafood Saffron Rice requires a 24-hours advance order and is priced at $388 for a whole pig. The crispy crunch of the pig skin goes well with the soft, savoury saffron rice inside, stuffed with lobster meat.
Why serve puny dessert items when you can serve a whole slice of fresh pineapple with jelly embedded inside, along with a glutinous taro ball? This is a beautiful dish to round up the “Huat” to a satisfying CNY meal!
