Veteran actor Sean Connery has died peacefully in his sleep at 90 years old, his family has announced.
Jason Connery shared that his father had been feeling “unwell for some time” and that he “had many of his family in the Bahamas around him” when he died. “A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor,” Jason said.
Sean Connery’s publicist Nancy Seltzer added that there will be a private ceremony for him, while a memorial will be planned after Covid-19.
The Scottish actor was in the acting business for five whole decades with his first major appearance being in the 1957 gangster movie ‘No Road Back’. He won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for ‘The Untouchables’ in 1988, and was the first one to play the role of James Bond on the big screen in ‘Dr. No’ (1962), eventually acting in six more films as the famous 007 spy: ‘From Russia with Love’ (1963), ‘Goldfinger’ (1964), ‘Thunderball’ (1965), ‘You Only Live Twice’ (1967), ‘Diamonds are Forever’ (1971), and ‘Never Say Never Again’ (1983).
Other notable films that Sean Connery has starred in include ‘Highlander’ (1986), ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ (1989), ‘The Hunt for Red October’ (1990), ‘The Rock’ (1996), and ‘Dragonheart’ (1996).
