18 months jail for 57-year-old who groomed and raped 14-year-old girl

57-year-old Yap Lee Kok used the name “Peter Teo” in a Facebook profile that ended up with him grooming and raping a 15-year-old girl.

He raped her in a car after he exchanged nude photos with her on February 4, 2019.

Who is Yap Lee Kok? Who is Peter Teo?

The 57-year-old used the name “Peter Teo” as he prowled Facebook for Singaporean teen girls to groom and coerce into having sex.

He at first lied to the teenage girl, whose identity was protected by a court order. He said that he was only 40 years old when he began chatting with the Secondary 3 student.

According to a report by TODAY, Lee was sentenced to 1 1/2 years jail time on Monday, October 26, after he plead guilty to two counts of sexual penetration of a minor. There were three other related charges that were considered by the judge during sentencing.

How did Lee coerce the teenage girl?

According to the same report, Lee found the girl on Facebook in January last year. There, he began to contact her and eventually sent her nude photos of himself–and solicited the same from her. They used Facebook Messenger to chat.

The girl told him that she was 14 at the time and was about to turn 15 years old. Lee then told her that he was only 40.

After that, the sexual nature of their chatting began, and he sent her nude photos of himself. He asked for some of hers, and he received two nude photos. He asked her if she was a virgin, and if she wanted to have sex with him. After such an exchange, he suggested that they meet in person.

The prosecutor in the case said, “The minor initially refused the accused’s request, but eventually agreed after the accused kept repeating the request and offering to drive the minor to school after their meeting. The minor was under the impression that she was meeting the accused only (to perform the sex act).”

Coerced and raped in a car

The same report said that Lee asked to meet the teenager in Jurong West, on the ground floor of a carpark. He asked her to not wear shorts or underwear beneath her uniform, to which she complied.

On February 4, he took her to the sixth floor of the car park, where he had left his vehicle. He folded the rear seat back so that they would have space to engage in sex acts. The report said that he did not use a condom.

Why did the teenager divulge what happened?

The girl had been scared after she was coerced to have sex without a condom, and eventually had to ask her teacher where she could get a pregnancy kit. She confessed her encounter with her teacher, that she had unprotected sex with an older man and was fearing the consequences.

The teacher directed her to the school counselor, and they filed a police report that she was raped by a man named Peter Teo.

He was sentenced to one and a half years, even as the prosecutor pushed for one year for the oral sex offense and 20 months for the penetrative sex. He could have been jailed for ten years.
