[Promo Code] Germ Busters Workshop on Covid-19 and more at Singapore Science Centre

The March school holiday is just round the corner and if you are looking for some meaningful activities for your kids to participate in during the break, consider the series of workshops and activities organised by the Singapore Science Centre.

With the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus situation, many parents have cast aside travel plans and are staying put in Singapore during the school holiday. Other than going for staycations, attending workshops and educational classes are a good way to get kids involved and engaged.

Last weekend, Asher and I attended a Germs Busters workshop at the Singapore Science Centre to learn more about getting rid of Bacteria and Viruses.

The specially curated workshop is hosted in their own lab and participants get to bring home a bottle of DIY hand sanitiser each. The workshop is suitable for the General Public (11 years old and above) at just S$30/pax. Discounts are applicable for Science Centre members (please bring your membership card along for verification) or use my promo code “ALVIN20” to enjoy a 20% discount!

During the workshop, the trainer will give a broad overview of the differences between viruses and bacterias in layman’s terms so kids can understand them easily. Real-life pandemic and health risks like SARS, MERS, Salmonella and of course, Covid-19 will be shared as well so the kids can relate to them better.

What I really like was a UV demonstration of how easily viruses and bacterias can spread if you do not wash your hands properly or practise good hygiene. A mock pathogen was applied on gloves which participating kids were wearing and they were asked to clean their hands with the gloves on. This mock pathogen is visible under UV light in the dark and we could see that a lot of times, we are unaware of how easily we can spread diseases by just touching surfaces and other objects when our hands are contaminated without proper washing.

The workshop ended with a tutorial on making your own hand sanitiser to take home. This got everyone very excited to mix it with their own choice of fragrance.

There are a lot of other interesting workshops and activities which you can sign up for at the Science Centre. More details are available on the official website.

Additionally, the Science Centre understands that some parents will probably prefer for their kids to stay indoor more during this period, in view of the Covid-19 situation. As such, they are offering a 50% discount on all “Let’s Explore” and “My First Lab” science kits from 14 to 22 March 2020.

While you are at the Science Centre, it is worthwhile to visit their special “Butterflies Up-close” exhibition for an extra S$10 per pax where you would get to interact and observe butterflies up-close in an indoor sanctuary:

Stay curious everyone and I hope you find a visit to the Science Centre as fun and enriching as both Asher and I. 🙂
