7 doable New Year’s resolutions everyone should follow in 2020

Every time a new year starts, people come up with resolutions that – let’s face it – we end up forgetting a few months into the new year. And then, once we break our resolutions, we just call it a day and give up on them altogether.

Well, let’s be different this year. Here are 7 doable new year’s resolutions that everyone should follow this 2020.

Stay loyal.

And we don’t just mean in your romantic relationships (which should really go without saying). Stay loyal to your friends. When someone says something bad behind their backs, defend them. Stay loyal to your country. Support local businesses over big international brands, and spread the word about them to help them make a bigger mark.

Be a responsible online citizen.

Before sharing an article or a post on Facebook, double-check the facts and make sure that what you are sharing isn’t fake news. Don’t call out people on the Internet when you can send them a direct message and correct them privately instead. Don’t leave nasty comments to fuel hatred online. Be better than that.

Push through with your plans.

How often have you made plans with someone only to wake up on the actual day and suddenly feel too lazy to push through with them? How comfortable does your bed suddenly feel right before a party? Does the thought of dressing up and braving traffic make you want to cancel things all the time? Push through with more plans this year. Be present. Remember: life is short and you never know when you might see someone next.

Follow a proper sleeping schedule.

Whatever you’re watching on Netflix right now may be addicting, but getting a good night’s sleep should still be your top priority. A lack of sleep can actually weaken your immune system, result in weight gain, cause thinking issues, and even lower your sex drive. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep everyday, so you can wake up refreshed, revitalised, and full of energy for a more productive year overall.

Care more about the environment.

If you haven’t given the environment much thought, now is the time to do so. Learn more about proper recycling. Always bring tumblers, reusable straws, and cutlery with you when you go out. Say no to plastic every chance that you get. And start more conversations about it, so that other people will follow your lead.

If you don’t need it, don’t buy it.

As tempting as sales might be, always follow this rule. There is a difference between wanting something and needing something. If you see something you like that you don’t necessarily need, let it go. Try it. You’ll be surprised by how much money you’ll be able to save at the end of the year because of this resolution.

Follow a healthier diet.

Although easier said than done, you need to eat healthier in order to live longer. If you love food too much, you can start by making changes to your diet gradually. Use less salt and sugar for a month and then avoid soft drinks and other sugared beverages altogether the next. Eat less meat the following month and drink less alcohol the month after that. By the end of the year, you’ll be proud to say that you’ve made a drastic change in your diet for a healthier you.
