This weekend, Adeeb & Shai present Heather: Should you judge a book by its author?

In the wake of the worldwide #MeToo movement, we’ve only seen more and more of our favourite artists fall from grace.

This year alone, we’ve had celebrity exposés like Surviving R. Kelly, Leaving Neverland (on Michael Jackson), and the “Burning Sun Gate” scandals that rocked the Korean entertainment industry.

Fans are at a crossroads. Must we be accountable for the art we consume? How do we deal with our own double standards regarding the creators of art we love? Can the art ever truly be separated from the artist?

Enter Adeeb & Shai with their Singapore premiere of Heather, originally presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Bush Theatre in London. It’s a contemporary two-hander from English playwright Thomas Eccleshare that grapples with the relationships between art, artist, and audience.

Following the publisher of a highly popular series of children’s books as they learn about the bitter truth behind the writer of the much-loved series, Heather doesn’t promise you answers to all your questions, but it does promise to make you question.

Presented by Gateway Theatre, Heather will be performed in Singapore for the first time by Andy Tear and Karen Tan, with lighting design by Petrina Dawn Tan and sound design by Ng Sze Min.

It’s showing at the Black Box at 8pm daily from tomorrow until this Saturday, with an extra 3pm matinee on Saturday and Sunday. That’s only five shows, so hurry up and get your tickets (S$30) here!

Keep up with Adeeb (Artistic Director, The Second Breakfast Company) & Shai (Joint Artistic Director, Bhumi Collective) on Facebook and Instagram.
