The only thing hotter than our tropical heat last weekend had got to be the third edition of ULTRA Singapore.
While the line-up for this year was remarkably different from that of last year, powerhouses such as Afrojack and DJ Snake made sure ultranauts got their rave on with heavy trap and bass.
Here is a highlight reel that we are sadly, still reeling from because nothing beats being at ULTRA in the flesh:
Nicky Romero started off the evening set of Day 1 with a slew of bangers that had ultranauts throwing their arms up in euphoria.
The renowned Dutch DJ dropped several hot favourites such as Dreamer by Axwell Λ Ingrosso feat. Trevor Guthrie, Sweet Nothing feat. Florence Welch and more dance-worthy songs.
In between dropping phenomenal beats, he did not forget to pay homage to the dearly missed EDM legend and Swedish DJ, Avicii with a song.
It was surely hard to miss the striking DBS Live Fresh Zone with its glow-in-the-dark facade, kaleidoscopic prism and of course, an Insta-worthy swing. There is even a FRESH DECK with an overlooking view of the ULTRA mainstage.
Hey, anything for the ‘gram right?
That’s not just all.
Festival-goers who own a DBS Live Fresh card (official ULTRA Singapore card) was able to enjoy exclusive ULTRA perks such as additional 10% cashback when they top up their wristband with the card and even cut waiting time for their drinks at the FRESH BAR.
You can be sure ultranauts were having a blast at the DBS Live Fresh Zone while waiting for their favourite acts or chilling in between sets.
DJ Snake was absolutely finesse-ing during his set time as he hit all the right spots, with his signature seductive beats and distinctive bass-line.
After all, the crowd got low on the French DJ’s command in no time before he dropped some of the sickest beats from Get Low, a few moments after. His set was one we would not mind getting our precious kicks dirty from dancing in the mud, especially with Lean On and A Different Way.
The high-octane energy flowing through the crowd was indeed palpable as DJ Snake brought the crowd to a new high when he jumped onto his DJ deck. If anything, trap lovers were bound to be vibing away to a wild night of electronic dance and trap acts.
The sun might be shining down mercilessly on day revellers but there were no stopping hordes of fans from catching Ummet Ozcan in action.
You bet the energy was electric as the Dutch-Turkish DJ went hard with The Hum and Narcotic, which had the crowd all fired up even with the sweltering heat.
The temperature continued to rise when he played his remix of dance anthems in the likes of Sweet Dreams, which practically had us transcended out of this world – almost in a trance-like state.
Ice-cream is the answer to taking a respite from the relentless heat and Häagen-Dazs knows that. Just ask any festival-goer at ULTRA Singapore who had been dancing under the sun.
Many were surely feeling peachy in no time after making a pit stop at the eye-popping Häagen-Dazs booth, with complimentary cups of White Peach & Raspberry ice cream given out.
If booze is your fuel, you could even quench your thirst with hand-crafted cocktails that tasted just as peachy as it looked.
In a male-dominated EDM arena, Australian electronic music female duo NERVO was a breath of fresh air.
The twin sisters enthralled the party troopers with a multi-sensorial showcase of technicolour visuals and racy remixes of familiar pop tunes such as Never Forget You by MNEK & Zara Larsson, Don’t Let Me Down by Chainsmokers and more dance hits.
Ultranauts were also trippin’ out on many of their favourite jams such as the quintessential Rhythm Of The Night, the ever-popular Havana by Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug and of course, one of their very own songs – Revolution; which they collaborated with Ummet Ozcan & R3HAB.
The ladies’ set was beyond impeccable for both of them built it up to a climatic high, from which Afrojack took over and elevated the spinning to a new high.
The entire legion of ultranauts went into a full-on frenzy once Afrojack came on with My City.
The celebrated Dutch DJ needs no further introduction, especially after having earned his dues with world famous songs such as Give Me Everything (with Pitbull feat. Ne-Yo & Afrojack & Nayer) and Ten Feet Tall (feat. Stephen Wrabel).
Afrojack’s set was truly unparalleled as only he could get all of ULTRA Singapore turnt up with his pulsating remixes of Congratulations, Mi Gente, How Deep Is Your Love, Marshmello’s Alone and more. Besides, he went hard with trap music, which literally sent fans into overdrive with heavy synths and aggressive beats sensually mashed together.
Say no more. We are are already counting down to the fourth edition of ULTRA Singapore.
As we count down to the next, the only way the wait is going to be bearable is if we have the set list on repeat.
