Jay Chou’s movie, The Secret, premieres as a musical this April

Fans of Jay Chou’s feature film “Secret” will certainly be pleased to know that a musical version of the classic film is now being presented in Singapore! Base Entertainment Asia and Perfect World Pictures have collaborated to bring THE SECRET to The MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands this April.

What you can look forward to

The musical features Jay Chou’s popular songs, including “Clear Stars,” “Rooftop,” and “Nocturnes” in a unique Broadway, jukebox format. You will be enchanted by the casts’ poignant acting of the storyline in which a student and a piano major travels through time and a beautiful love story unfolds.

While following closely to the original movie storyline, the musical has an added touch of elaborate props and a stunning set that will blow you away! There is a focus on engaging the audience as well as playing up the comedic aspects of the storyline.

Thoughts by the Main Cast

The 2 main characters, Ye Xiang Lun and Lu Xiaoyu, are played by Cao Yang and Wang Xiaomin respectively.

Cao Yang is a musical theatre professional who has acted in several other productions including I love You and Beauty in The Wind. In 2017, he was invited to be the guest singer for Sing China (Season 2), joining Jay Chou’s team and singing “Remember” with a Malaysian singer, Chenying-en.

With regards to his role in the musical, Cao yang expressed his appreciation in being a part of a production that involves his idol, Jay Chou. In a Q&A session with the media, he also revealed that it was a good learning experience working with the American Broadway team, where both sides had to understand and learn from each other.

He recalls having to explain to the American directors on the Chinese way of showing love, where one would be more gentle and shy as opposed to being liberal and confident in America.

Wang Xiaomin is a Chinese singer and actor who is stepping onto the musical theatre scene for the first time. She has sung with numerous stars including Alan Ko and Liang Genrong as well as acted in several movies, such as happy Road and The Butterfly Cemetery.

She expressed her surprise at being selected to be in the main cast after going through 3 gruelling rounds of auditions, of which many talented professionals had been rejected. In portraying Wang Xiaomin, she expounds on the character’s sensitive and vulnerable side, making her all the more lovable in the show.
