Organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), sustainable light art festival i Light Marina Bay opened this evening, with Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong officiating the opening ceremony.

Featuring 22 installations created by artists from 14 countries including Singapore, this year’s festival saw greater participation from the community in the creation of sustainable artworks. Three of the artworks – Transistable Plastic, Milk Bottle Cows and Chandelier of Spirits – were created from recycled plastic and glass bottles donated by the public and corporate partners.

Designed with energy-saving lighting, recycled or environmentally-friendly materials, the showcase of light art installations reinforces Marina Bay’s position as a sustainable precinct and serves as reminders to encourage festival goers and the public to adopt sustainable habits in their everyday lives.

Visitors were also seen enjoying themselves at the four festival hubs – ILLUMI Bar, Art-Zoo Inflatable Park, Gastrobeats and Prudential Marina Bay Carnival, where families and friends indulged in delectable food options, and were entertained with games and music.

i Light Marina Bay will be held from 9 March to 1 April 2018, 7.30pm to 11pm daily with extended hours to 12.00mn on Fridays and Saturdays, around the Marina Bay waterfront and Esplanade Park. Admission is free. Visit www.ilightmarinabay.sg for more information.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is Singapore’s land use planning and conservation agency. Our mission is “to make Singapore a great city to live, work and play”. We strive to create an endearing home and a vibrant and sustainable future city through far- sighted planning and innovation, in partnership with the community.

URA’s multi-faceted role includes being the main government land sales agent. Through the sale of State land, we attract and channel private capital investment to develop sites to support economic and social development. We also partner the community to enliven our public spaces to create a car-lite, people-friendly and liveable city for all to enjoy. In shaping a distinctive city, URA also promotes architecture and urban design excellence. Visit www.ura.gov.sg for more information.
