Shanghai Disneyland may be the newest Disneyland amusement park in Asia, but Star Wars fans will still have reasons to head over to Hong Kong Disneyland because of their Star Wars Tomorrowland Takeover.
Launched in 2016, the Star Wars additions to the theme park came just in time with Disney taking over the Star Wars movie franchise, reigniting interest for the series once again. If you are feeling all nostalgic and want to experience the Star Wars universe in real-life, head down to Hong Kong Disneyland for an intimate experience.
There are lots to experience – from Star Wars themed rooms to F&B, rides and meet-and-greet with Star Wars characters. Here are the highlights to expect.
Look under the “room decoration packages” on each of the the hotels’ booking pages to check out the various options, including the Star Wars theme. The room we stayed in was at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
From the foot rests on the beds to the amenities like floor slippers, these will all be Star Wars themed accordingly.
The best part about the themed room for Star Wars fans is that you can take home all the Star Wars extras – including the room stickers if you can peel them off nicely.
Some prized items include the shoe covers, bedroom slippers and the mini BB8 and Stormtrooper toys.
From Star Wars cookies to dessert items and even a Darth Vader burger, these are available at the various dining options inside Hong Kong Disneyland.
Enjoy Star Wars themed dim sum items at the Crystal Lotus fine-dining Chinese restaurant located at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel for breakfast or lunch. When you are out and about having fun inside the amusement park, feast on the Darth Vader burger or other Star Wars themed food items to add to the fun of a full Star Wars day out.

Thrill-seekers would not want to miss this. Queue for this ride can be very long, hence show up early or get a FastPass to avoid disappointment.
Dodge blaster fire as you dash through a raging dogfight between Rebel X-wing starfighters and Imperial TIE fighters. The ride is designed to be like a scene right out of a Star Wars movie:
“The adventure begins as Admiral Ackbar briefs you on your mission: the Rebel Alliance needs your help flying a reconnaissance vessel to survey an Imperial Star Destroyer spotted near Jakku—a desert planet featured in the new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. An elite X-wing squadron escorts you into hyperspace. You arrive at your destination to find the Star Destroyer waiting for you, surrounded by a swarm of TIE fighters. It’s a trap! As the Rebels valiantly battle the Imperial vessels, you’re caught up in the barrage of red and green blaster fire. The speed and the turns grow more intense as the Rebel squadron begins their final, courageous assault on the menacing Star Destroyer. Stay on target… for out-of-this-world thrills on Hyperspace Mountain.”
We tried out the ride and had a blast of a time! Go try it too!
For those who love photo opportunities, there are designated time slots to get your photos taken with R2-D2, Chewbacca and the roving First Order on Patrol. Make sure you take note of the respective timings so you don’t miss any of them!
Customise your own light saber at the Space Traders gift shop in Tomorrowland. The kids will love this as they get to mix and match their favourite colours.
