[Food Review] Da Maurizio Restaurant at Patong Beach, Phuket

One of the best thing about Da Maurizio Bar Ristorante is their beachside location. You get to enjoy fine contemporary Italian cuisine in a beautiful seaside location at the north end of Patong in Phuket, Thailand at Kalim Bay.

To get there, the restaurant is located just opposite Novotel Phuket Resort and you need to head down a short flight of stairs to reveal the seafront. The view is fantastic and you get to listen to the lapping waves while the sun set during dinner.

Prices are on the steep side for local standards and comparable to international restaurants. The sea view and the ambience comes at a price. Expect to spend upwards of S$50 (~ 700 THB) for a main and above S$100 (~ 2500 THB) per pax with sides and drinks.

We tried their Ocean and Deluxe set menus.

Four-course Ocean Menu

Local Baby Clams Sauteed with White Wine, Garlic, Cherry Tomatoes and Herbs
“Ravioli” Spinach & Ricotta Cheese with Cream and Tomato Sauce
Tasmanian Salmon with Saffron Vellutata, Spinach and Mashed Potatoes
Original Tiramisu with Rum

Four-course Deluxe Menu

Sesame Encrusted Seared Tuna with Wasabi Cream
Taglierini with Black Truffle Cream Sauce
Sorbet to cleanse the palate
Wagyu Beef “Tagliata” Style on a Porcini Mushroom with Mashed Potatoes,Sauté Spinach, Carrots, Green Beans and Balsamic Reduction
Freshly Made Crepes with Strawberries & Vanilla Ice Cream

The restaurant is part of the Baan Rim Pa Restaurant Group which owns and operates a string of high-end, pricey restaurants in Phuket, all located by the beachfront.

The food is average for the price and we would recommend Acqua Restaurant nearby for those who are looking for a culinary escapade for around the same price range. Make no mistake, the food was decent, but not out of the ordinary from most other Italian restaurants.

However, if you want to celebrate some special occasions or are just out to impress, Da Maurizio offers the perfect ambience with their quiet, private beach location. They also offer a wide selection of curated wines and beverages, both local and international.

If you check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.com, you will see that most others who dined at the restaurant before share the same sentiment as us. They have a solid 4-star rating but most of the grouses are on the prices. As such, we would not recommend Da Maurizio for the wallet-conscious travellers.
