Get your child started on coding with LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox

The new world is for those who are tech and digitally-savvy. As such, getting your little ones started on coding from a young age is always a good idea. How do you get started with coding if the parents themselves are not familiar with the subject?

Introducting the LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox – a new innovative product from LEGO for kids to build, code and play and the same time.

The LEGO BOOST features a 5-in-1 design, whereby kids will be able to build 5 different LEGO designs and code each of them individually through a free downloadable app to do cool interactive stuff. My son, Asher, 6, and I had a lot of fun building the various designs together, with him coding each of them on his own.

The five designs are:

  • Vernie, your personal talking robot friend which you can code its behaviour
  • M.T.R.4 (Multi-Tooled Rover 4), an app-controlled motor vehicle
  • Guitar 4000, an interactive guitar
  • Frankie the Cat, your personal robot pet cat
  • AutoBuilder, a machine that assembles little LEGO robots

To get started, you need to download the free LEGO BOOST app via iOS or Android on your mobile device. Be sure to visit the official website to check compatibility before you make your purchase of the set.

Next, unbox the LEGO BOOST and load the central power bank piece with batteries. Then, sync the piece with your app with Bluetooth and you are ready to go!

Asher and I started with the guitar design first – likely the easiest build with the least number of steps. After assembling the guitar, Asher could code and program the guitar with the app to have it play music the way he wants it to.

Guitar 4000

Although he love the guitar very much, we tore it down and assembled the cat-bot next. The adorable cat will purr on command, even give you a cute look for your affection if you program it as such.

Frankie the Cat

We are now onto the third design (out of five) and it has been more than a month since we first unboxed the LEGO BOOST. I must say this is one of those toys with an extremely long shelf-life, considering how short kids’ attention spans are these days!

The LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox is now available in Singapore both online and at leading retail stores and is priced at $249.99.
