Enjoy a Peranakan Buffet Feast this Christmas at INDOCAFE – The White House

There are not many Peranakan fine dining establishment in Singapore and INDOCAFE – The White House, is one of the fews. Launched in 2013, the restaurant is nestled along the lush tranquillity of Scotts Road and within walking distance from the Orchard shopping belt.

The architecture itself is eye-catching. Remember the hit TV series, The Little Nonya? It’s like a walk into the set and Singapore’s colonial past. This makes the venue an ideal location for special celebrations and events.

This Christmas, if you are looking for a different dining experience, the restaurant is offering a Peranakan Festive Buffet Feast from 24 to 25 December. Prices starts from S$62++ per pax on Christmas Eve to S$68++ per pax on Christmas Day, without drinks.

Pricing details:

Christmas Eve
S$102++ per pax (includes unlimited Antica Fratta, house pour red and white wines, juices, coffee and tea)
S$62++ per pax (without drinks)
S$34++ per child, 6 to 11 years old (includes unlimited juices, coffee and tea)

Christmas Day
S$108++ per pax (includes unlimited Antica Fratta, house pour red and white wines, juices, coffee and tea)
S$68++ per pax (without drinks)
S$36++ per child, 6 to 11 years old (includes unlimited juices, coffee and tea)

On top of the a la carte selection of delectable Peranakan fares, diners will also get to sample a Peranakan-style Roasted Turkey (stuffed with chicken cubes, sweet potatoes, carrot, yam and accompanied with the restaurant’s signature sweet pineapple and spicy otah sauce) and Honey-baked Ham marinated with Lemongrass Juice at the Carving Station; poached life prawn, half shell scallops, Australian black mussels and lobster claw from the seafood menu; char siew pau, salted egg pau, siew mai and har kow for Dim Sum; and chicken and beef satay from the live satay grill.

This is a steal for an exquisite dining experience during the festive period.

Peranakan dishes may look simple in presentation, but they usually involves a mix of many condiments, spices and ingredients, tediously handmade or blended together. These are some of the dishes available on the menu:

Udang Chili Goreng (deep-fried tiger prawns served with homemade chili)
Babi Panggang (nyonya-style pork skewer served with lime chili sauce)
Ikan Masak Merah (pan-roasted cod fish fillet served with sweet sauce)
Sapi Kicap Manis (wagyu beef glazed with sweet and spicy sauce)
Ayam Buah Keluak (organic chicken braised in black nut paste and exotic spices)
INDOCAFE signature Kueh Pie Tee (pastry cups with shredded turnips and traditional accompaniments)
Five-spiced Ngoh Hiang (homemade pork meat roll wrapped in bean curd skin)
Bawang Manis Ikan Bilis (fried anchovies and onions salad)
Nyonya Fried Rice (fragrant fried rice served with fried chicken and chili)
Perankan-style roasted turkey
Desserts – Bubur Cha Cha, Bubur Pulut Hitam, Durian Ice Cream

I particularly like the beef dish, pork skewer, tiger prawns and the chicken Buah Keluak. The latter is a traditional Peranakan dish which is hard to find at restaurants in Singapore. The spices and gravy are fantastic, packing the full mix of flavours from sweet to spicy.

If you have a sweet tooth, you will enjoy their wide array of Peranakan desserts too.
