If you are looking for a reasonably priced restaurant in the heartland which serves great Cantonese and Malaysian-style Chinese cuisine, you may want to check out First Culinary Restaurant (第一食为鲜) at Ang Mo Kio ITE College Central.
Yes, there is a banquet-style Chinese restaurant located within the ITE College Central campus. I was surprised with the find during a large family dinner to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday.
The full a la carte menu as well as set menu is available online, with set meals starting from S$42 per pax (minimum 2 pax) for a 6-course meal to a 10-course set meal priced at S$888 that serves 10 pax. The restaurant also does catering and host large-scale dinner functions like weddings and company events.
Here are some of the dishes I tried in the 9-course Longevity Birthday Feast (S$468) for 1o pax:
These were followed by the last two dishes, Longevity Noodles and a cold dessert:
Verdict?
Not too bad for the price point. If you are looking for a place to host your wedding banquet, this is definitely a much better deal than the inflated S$2,000+ per table which most hotels seem to be charging these days.
There are ample parking lots during the weekend to host very large family or corporate functions. The wait staff is attentive and quick with their service. Food arrives promptly and the dining experience is generally hassle-free. The boss is a friendly chap and would come out and mingle with diners.
