Nothing ruins a holiday like death, injury, illness, or lost, damaged or stolen luggage. So to safeguard your holiday and peace of mind, travel insurance covers you in case something happens on your trip.
Insurance firm Aviva has introduced new enhancements and riders for its travel insurance policy, with the aim of alleviating uncertainty for consumers when they travel overseas.
Currently, travel insurance policies in the market cover trip cancellations or change of travelling dates for specific claimable reasons such as death, injury, or illness.
To provide additional flexibility to consumers, the insurance firm said it has gone beyond this to introduce first-in-market coverage for cancellation or change of travelling dates for any reason – for instance, cancellations due to sudden work commitments, family emergencies, or even simply a change of mind.
A 50% reimbursement will be provided for such claims.
Aviva has also introduced coverage for more novel reasons such as destination weddings and overseas photoshoots, in response to their growing popularity amongst couples today.
This new rider’s coverage includes financial loss if your wedding service providers become insolvent and leave you in the lurch. It also covers personal liability for injury to guests or damage to property, as well as loss of items such as wedding attire, accessories and marriage certificate, amongst others.
Other new riders that Aviva has introduced to better cater to consumers’ travel agenda include coverage for winter sports (e.g. skiing), water sports (e.g. diving), and golf vacations.
Head of General Insurance from Aviva Singapore, Pan Jing Long said: “People travel for a variety of reasons – for example, to pursue interests that are not accessible here, such as skiing or diving.
“Destination weddings and overseas photography are also becoming increasingly popular with couples, and these come with a high financial outlay. Our new suite of add-ons ensures our customers are fully protected when they are overseas, with benefits that are relevant to their lifestyles and travel agenda,” Pan added.
Travel insurance available via RYDE app
In addition to digital and financial advisory channels, Aviva has expanded its distribution network for its travel insurance by teaming up with RYDE, a carpooling app.
Via the use of an application program interface (API), RYDE members can now get a quote and purchase Aviva’s travel insurance from within the RYDE app, with a 10% discount on their premium.
If they are also an existing Aviva customer, the discount goes up to 30% – this is part of Aviva’s ongoing initiative to reward existing customers.
RYDE members are assured of full coverage even during their journey to and from the airport.
RYDE’s founder and CEO, Terence Zou said: “With the integration of RYDE and Aviva’s back-end systems, our members can now purchase insurance directly from Aviva with just a few taps within the RYDE app.
“Ensuring the safety of our members is our priority, and we aim to transform how insurance is digitally delivered to enhance protection for mobility,” he said.
