The new Funan by CapitaLand looks set to go from just an IT mall to the it mall. At least when it comes to the innovative sci-fi approach to shopping, that is.
The two storey Funan showsuite will give visitors a glimpse of things to come, using an immersive virtual reality technology to showcase what the new mall has to offer in a full-scale, computer generated world. Expect Funan to go all out on its new position as the work-live-play paradigm; new anchor tenants such as supermarket chain FairPrice Finest has been signed on, together with Golden Village, a high-tech spin on Kopitiam, Climb Central and Carrie K., an award-winning homegrown artisan jewellery label that has achieved international acclaim.
More prominently, W!ld Rice, Singapore’s leading professional theatre company, will call Funan its new home with an intimate 380-seat theatre featuring an innovative thrust stage design. Former tenants, namely Newstead Technologies, AddOn Systems and T K Foto, have also confirmed their big return with promise of greater things. We can only imagine that to be niftier gadgets and highly generous IT promotions.
Be ready, GEN F Tribe. The new Funan is about to transform the way you shop, work, live and play.
You may look into the future of Funan –slated for official launch in the fourth quarter of 2019–at their showsuite located at the junction of Hill Street and High Street. You can also sign-up for workshops and fun lifestyle activities held over the weekends.
“We envision Funan as Singapore’s creative intersection where passion meets discovery, and the showsuite is its microcosm – an inviting space that serves as a platform for people to express themselves
and be inspired. We are immensely proud to be working with some of the best Singapore talents, makers and entrepreneurs – both budding and established – to turn Funan’s showsuite into a living showcase of local creative prowess.”
“We hope this will inspire more people to pursue their passions and meet fellow enthusiasts at Funan’s showsuite. As we work with our partners to bring Funan to fruition over the next two years, we will continue to champion local talents, and support the community’s journey of passion, discovery and connection at the Funan showsuite.” –Mr Kevin Siew, Vice President, Retail Development, Funan
The public opening of Funan showsuite is going see a full day of activities, including water-colouring and terrarium workshops. Popular Instagrammer Yafiq Yusman, who made a name for himself over his unique perspectives on architectural photography, will also be making an appearance for a dialogue session.
Keep a look out for craft workshops, film screenings, product launches and community talks, organised around Funan’s passion clusters ‘tech’, ‘craft’, ‘fit’, ‘taste’, ‘chic’ and ‘play’.
No, it’s not a case of Inception, where you see a Funan inside Funan itself. Located on the upper floor after the long stairway, this 1:100 scaled model of the forward looking mall is the pride and joy of full-time Lego artist Eugene Tan, and his team member Xylvie Wong. It took them 240 man hours to complete it. If you do the math, that’s 10 straight days of Lego labour.
Visitors who are feeling inspired can fool around with the loose Lego bricks placed behind the scale model. This should be a hoot for the kids (whom we hope wouldn’t topple the whole structure *gasp*).
Want to un-bore yourself and experience the experiential Funan showsuite? It is open to the public daily from 11am to 9pm, starting from 30 April 2017 #FunanSG #UnboremeFunan
