Park Regis Singapore recently launched a #sginsiders WeekendStaycation package with prices starting from just S$199 per night. A pretty sweet deal considering the hotel’s central location at Merchant Road in the CBD.
Other than the price proposition, what’s unique about this staycation package?
Why #sginsiders?
Park Regis Singapore teamed up with 3 Singaporean personalities, Sara Wee, Aarika Lee and Divian Nair to pick out their favourite lifestyle spots covering fashion, music and nightlife, arts and culture, family hangouts and more, compiling their recommendations into a #sginsiders by Park Regis walking guide.
In the walking guide, guests will get to explore local sights and sounds in and around the neighbourhood all within 15 minutes in the precinct of the hotel. Thanks to its strategic location, Park Regis Singapore is situated right next to Singapore’s entertainment, dining and cultural hubs such as Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Chinatown, all within a short walk from the hotel.
“Tucked in a quieter enclave of Clarke Quay and Chinatown, Park Regis Singapore’s prime location offers accessibility to attend to business, to sightsee or for a leisurely weekend. Together with local influencers, we hope to introduce our guests to the hidden gems within 15 minutes walking distance in the hotel’s precinct. With the handy guidebook, visitors can go on a self-guided trail to explore the Clarke Quay and Chinatown area, to truly experience Singapore from a local perspective,” shared Jack Chua, General Manager of Park Regis Singapore.
A stylish mother of two, Aarika Lee is by default one of the go-to insiders for the latest fashion and lifestyle spots. In the walking guide, her recommendations centered on fashion, arts and fun for the whole family.
Aarika shared “I’ve picked out spots that were interesting for both fellow Singaporeans and tourists to check out; places that were easy to do on your own as a solo traveller or even as a family. They also gave an insight into what the energy of Chinatown is about- the traditional, and the new.”
We visited one spot recommend by Aarika – Matter Prints, a successful socially motivated fashion retailer founded in Singapore in 2014 by two friends.
The brand fosters designer-artisan collaborations and sells stylish wears produced by sustainable rural textile communities, shipping to many countries worldwide.
I have not heard of the brand prior to the visit and found Matter Prints’ success story very interesting. Their shop-office is definitely worth a visit and it’s a good recommendation from #sginsiders.
Another local personality, Sara Wee, best known as the vocalist and guitarist of homegrown band 53A, introduced her favourite hangouts for arts and live music in Clarke Quay and Chinatown.
One such spot recommended by Sara is Hive by Wala Wala.
Hive features live music and boasts 400-seats shared between an indoor area and a large al fresco area. It is home to 4 concept sections – a wine retail shop; a restaurant; a bar and a cigar room.
Another site we visited was Battlebox at Fort Canning Hill.
The Battlebox is a former WWII British underground command centre inside Fort Canning Hill. It was part of the headquarters of Malaya Command, the army which defended Malaya and Singapore in WWII. It was inside the Battlebox that the British decided to surrender Singapore to the invading Japanese on 15 February 1942.
Today, the Battlebox is a museum that unveils the true causes behind “the worst disaster and largest capitulation in British history”.
The museum only opened it’s doors recently and not many Singaporeans have visited it.
I have just shared three of the locations recommended in the #sginsiders guide. There are many more for you to discover on your own walking tour during a staycation with Park Regis.
If you are too lazy to walk, an alternative breezier way of uncovering all the local gems in the #sginsiders guide is to do so by wheels. As part of the hotel’s Go Green Initiative, bicycles are available throughout the day to offer guests a different sightseeing experience in an environmentally friendly manner. Each bicycle rental comes with a helmet, bicycle lock, basket, drinking water and baby seat on request.
It will be cool (literally as well) to be cycling around the CBD to go on a sightseeing tour!
In line with the launch of the #sginsiders neighbourhood guide, the hotel introduced a weekend staycation package of the same name. The #sginsiders Weekend Staycation package, available from S$199++ has been formulated to include:
