The theme of the sixth and latest collaboration between UNIQLO and the French fashion icon, Ines de la Fressange, centers around “Paris at the Height of 1960s Fashion”. Fashion, which had once been exclusive to the bourgeoisie, began to enter the lives of everyday people, sparking a Parisian fashion revolution that swept the world. It was also during this time that women became more expressive and more colors can be seen and used in fashion pieces.
The core colors for the UNIQLO x Ines de la Fressange Fall/Winter 2016 Collection are shades of gray such as charcoal and dark gray, a first for the collaboration line. These colors are accented with vivid blues and reds, dark olive green and rich cognac. Along with Ines’ signature navy, these hues give an air of freshness and present an expressive Parisian chic charm.
The collection illustrates Ines’ pursuit in designing authentic high quality clothing that all women can wear comfortably while making themselves look beautiful. The pieces in the collection, which have been expertly integrated with UNIQLO’s LifeWear concept by Design Director Naoki Takizawa, allow women to shine in comfort and to enjoy styles with refined elegance, in a free-flowing vintage mode.
For the UNIQLO x Ines de la Fressange Fall/Winter 2016 Collection, Ines has created three stories around the theme of that movement, combining timeless allure with new Parisian chic styles:
1) La Femme RIVE DROITE
Classic elegance for a highly polished, sophisticated and feminine look.
This elegant style is inspired by the dedicated and wise wives and mothers who have long been admired by women from every era. Pieces such as the peacock blue elegant cashmere knit are reminiscent of the clothing worn by the women in Jean-Luc Godard’s films. The rayon soft standing collar or frill shirt evokes a characteristically sleek feel. Add a tailored jacket in velvet or tweed and straight pants to create a beautiful silhouette. Alternatively, don the standing collar coat with a hat a la Catherine Deneuve, to turn everyday settings into an elegant and classy atmosphere.
2) La Femme RIVE GAUCHE
Chic sophistication for a high fashion style which allows uniqueness to shine through simplicity.
Inspired by traditional work wear, the pieces include postman jackets and hunting shirts. The traditional uniform styles adored by Parisians have been adapted into unique items arranged with piping and vintage-style prints that exude a sleek charm. Evoking typical scenes from a 1960’s French movie, such as subway entrances, boats on the Seine or Notre Dame, the styles have a feel of the intellectual Parisienne, such as the chester coat, dark-colored poncho and knit jacket.
3) La Femme 70’s
A 70’s style that mixes different culture and tastes, combining freedom and great music.
Pieces such as earthy-toned corduroy shirts, flared pants, miniskirts and flannel shirt dresses as well as mohair argyle knits in bright color block variations express the free and open feel of the 70’s. The collection also includes seasonal items such as stadium jackets and chunky knits, which further expand one’s fashion repertoire.
Couldn’t resist the new UNIQLO x Ines de la Fressange Fall/Winter 2016 Collection so I too picked up one or two pieces for my upcoming Japan trip in October, just in time for the Autumn season.
