IPTL at the National Indoor Stadium

Have you ever witnessed a group of people who really, really excel at what they’re doing? It’s an awe-inspiring experience. To know that these people have surpassed the hundreds of thousands, and emerged at the top is perhaps, and to watch them live in action.

And I had the pleasure, courtesy of DBS Bank, to bear witness to these amazing sportsmen and women.

Sneaked a little selfie in between.

The International Premier Tennis League or IPTL, was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium a couple of weeks ago. It’s a special tournament that’s the first of its kind – a city-based professional league played in four Asian countries, with each country represented by a star-studded team of players.

We watched the matches between the Musafir.com UAE Royals team vs DBS Singapore Slammers team.

And here’s Serena Williams, a fabulous player who’s probably the most dominant female player since Steffi Graaf.

Fans rushing up for Tomas Berdych’s (the dude who beat Roger Federer during last year’s US Open) signatures with some huge ass balls 🙂

The entire place was had some very strong party vibes. Instead of the usual quiet, hush-hush environment, there was plenty of party music and they even had these dancers, decked in super colourful attire and gyrating to the music, in between matches.

Kristina Mladenovic, looking very pretty in pink.

And of course, Andre Agassi, playing for the Singapore Slammers. Very proud to have a living legend like Agassi on our team 🙂

Serena Williams the queen of tennis, pitted against Caroline Wozniacki, currently the female player with the best form, and previous world number 1.

The audience were just captivated and watched in bated breath, as these master atheletes displayed a show of their powerful forehands and deft slices.

It’s spectacular to bear witness to such sportsmanship AND showmanship. Because it takes extreme focus and concentration to be able to execute such skilled moves in front of hundreds, or even thousands of spectators. It takes even more grit and determination to make it to the top, when there are so many others vying for that spot right up there. And to be a part of this whole experience, is just amazing.

Many thanks goes especially to the organizers and sponsors of the IPTL, for making it their mission to bring the world of professional tennis to Asia. It’s an amazing opportunity for us, who, without having to travel, are still able to catch these incredible matches live.
