Last Thursday (September 25), the Traders Hotel at Cuscaden Road in Singapore was rebranded as Hotel Jen Singapore. This is the first Traders property under the Shangri-La Group to be rebranded globally. Following the recent launch of Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore, this brings the number of Hotel Jen room keys in Singapore to over 1,000.
A launch party was held over a weekend brunch at the newly named Hotel Jen Singapore:

The Hotel Jen brand is inspired by the virtual persona Jen, a professional hotelier who loves life, travel and the adventure of discovering new places.
Clifford Weiner, general manager of Hotel Jen Singapore, shared: “The rebrand to Hotel Jen is really about changing our approach from the inside out. I firmly believe that to adapt to the changing needs of today’s ‘millennially minded’ traveller, we need to evolve with them, starting at the very heart of our hotel – our staff. Our established team of loyal staff have spent the past few months embracing the Jen values: fun, friendly and fuss-free. They are what underpin this whole rebrand for us. Hotel Jen Singapore will still bring guests the same level of quality as before but now with a more intuitive service attitude and relaxed, friendly style.”
Mr. Weiner certainly embraced the fun spirt of the rebrand. He gamely rolled up his sleeves to cook and serve his homemade risotto recipe for guests at the event:
As part of Hotel Jen Singapore’s aim to make the hotel as great a place to work as it is to stay, a graduate from a local art college has been brought in to design an inspiring workplace by adding colour and quirky quotes in the ‘heart of house’, the back of house work area for all staff.
Guests at the launch event were also invited to participate and paint on a large canvas to be hung in the hotel lobby:
The physical renovation of Hotel Jen Singapore will start in November 2014, as part of a three-phase approach scheduled to finish in Q1 2016. All Hotel Jen Singapore staff will retain their positions during the renovation process and the hotel will remain open. The renovation will focus on enhancing the guest experience at every touch point, designed with today’s evolving traveller requirements in mind. Rooms will feature modern, interchangeable, apartment-style furnishings that optimise the space – such as a bay window sofa with moveable table which can be used for work or relaxation. All rooms will be equipped with smart technology including interactive TVs with multi-device enabled streaming and in-room check-out.
I got a peek in one of their mock-up room on what to expect from the renovation:
Looking good isn’t it? Definitely spunkier and with more of a personality.
Ahead of any physical updates, Hotel Jen Singapore is building on its existing heritage and the staff’s local knowledge to deliver the new brand to guests. Embracing the concept of ‘staying with a friend’, guests will notice the extra touches from a home-cooking inspired restaurant menu inviting guests to request their own version of a dish, to handwritten notes from the staff.
An informed and friendly service style will allow guests to discover the best of where they are through unique recommendations, from new boutiques to finding the best local chili crab. The Hotel Jen team will be a guest’s own personal local lifestyle guides, making them truly feel like they are staying with a friend.
The new uniform is bright pink and the staff now exudes casual charm in jeans and sheriff badges with the Jen logo:
Technology is also key to catering to the highly social, young-at-heart traveller. Free WiFi everywhere, all the time, and convenient mobile charging stations throughout the hotel – I love this and these are the kind of features I look out for when booking a hotel! In addition, laundry wash and fold service at one price for unlimited items in the laundry bag, a PressReader app with free access to 2,500 online publications, replacing the traditional morning newspaper, and free coffee and snack-box-to-go options after breakfast are just a few of the many features on offer at Hotel Jen Singapore. Guest comfort and safety are an absolute priority and there will be no compromise on existing, high-quality standards.
In the next phase of the Hotel Jen roll-out, Traders hotels in Hong Kong, Brisbane, Penang, Johor Bahru, Manila, Maldives, Beijing and Shenyang will be rebranded from October 2014 to March 2015, bringing an intuitive service and relaxed, friendly style to the existing collection of mid-range hotels. Traders Hotel Hong Kong will rebrand to Hotel Jen Hong Kong on 6 October 2014 for three Hotel Jens launched in three weeks. Hotel Jen development projects are under consideration in key gateway cities in Asia Pacific, with plans to expand globally in the future.

About Hotel Jen’s Chinese name – 今旅 (Today – Travel)
Jen is a lover of life, fun, adventure and discovery, and wanted a Chinese name to reflect that. ‘Jin’ (today) is about the importance of living every day to its fullest, in the moment, and Lü (travel) represents the idea that life is about exploring new cultures, experiences and ways of being you.
Together, the characters inspire others to ‘travel today’, so why not be a little spontaneous? Jen can’t wait to host you.

I love the way you have described the place expats should visit. On the other hand, if you are an expat and plan on moving to Singapore, do check out http://www.placematch.sg. I found it to be very useful in finding a place.
