Singapore shooter Teh Xiu Yi wins a second medal for Singapore at the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games. Another shooter, Martina Veloso won the first medal, a silver for 10m rifle women’s event, earlier on Tuesday.

Teh won a silver medal for 10m air pistol mixed event, the first ever such Olympic event.

Lidia Nencheva from Bulgaria and Vladimir Svechnikov from Uzbekistan made history by beating Teh and Ahmed Mohamed from Egypt, 10-5, to be crowned the first-ever gold medalists in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Fangshan shooting hall in Nanjing.

Nencheva and Svechnikov formed a team based on their final rankings in the individual air pistol event. The duo combined well through competition in shooting’s newest event.

The Bulgarian-Uzbek combine led  Teh and her teammate from the start in the race for the gold medal. They won the first four rounds comfortably.

Teh and her teammate opened their account in the fifth round by shooting 10.6 and 9.8 respectively as opposed to 9.8 and 9.7 shot by the eventual winners. Despite the duo showing signs of form, they couldn’t maintain the consistency of their opponents.

The consistency on display helped the Bulgarian-Uzbek combine take home the gold medal. Teh and Mohamed had to settle for the silver medal.

Congratulations once again to Teh, Veloso and Team Singapore!
