I was a huge fan of LEGO growing up and from my knowledge, I used to have the largest collection of LEGO sets among my friends in school, ranging from the space adventure series to Robin Hood to pirate ships.
I think the bricks build creativity and Rachel and I have been trying to get Asher to play with LEGO for a long time – with no success. Asher is impatient and would ask us to join the bricks for him when he is unable to click them together on the first try.
Maybe watching The LEGO Movie will help. It will introduce him to the wonderful, imaginative world of LEGO where anything can be build from a few basic bricks. This is the world I grew up in.
Thanks to the folks from Golden Village Singapore, we were provided with tickets to the preview screening on Monday:
The LEGO Movie is directed and co-written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It features the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman:
The story is simple. Like it said in the poster, it is about a regular guy who happen to get thrown on a mission to save the world. The only difference is that the lead, Emmet, is a LEGO figurine:
Synopsis:
In the Lego universe, an ordinary mini-figure named Emmet is mistaken as being the Special (the greatest Master Builder who can save the Lego universe). With the help of an old wizard named Vitruvius, and a tough young woman named Wyldstyle, Batman, Uni-Kitty, Benny, and a pirate named Metalbeard, Emmet will have to unlearn everything he saw in the instructions and discover the power of imagination to defeat the evil Lord Business, a tyrant who is bent on destroying the Lego universe on Taco Tuesday and recreating it as he sees fit by gluing it together.
The movie is paced fast, packed with non-stop LEGO brick actions from start till end.
The opening song, “Everything is Awesome!!!” by The Lonely Island, in collaboration with Tegan and Sara was…. AWESOME.
We cannot get it out of our head. Even Asher knows how to sing it now:
“Everything is awesome, everything is cool when your part of a team Everything is awesome, when you’re living out a dream”
How would I describe the movie?
AWESOME!!!
It’s great entertainment suited for all audience and all ages. My two years old song enjoyed it. Rachel and I enjoyed it too.
Mostly, I like how a larger narrative of creative freedom versus always following the rules was weaved into the story.
I also like how LEGO bricks were used in the movie to build all sort of stuff from airplanes to submarines. All that was needed from the lead characters to build these was their imagination. This is something I hope which can inspire Asher to pick up his LEGO bricks and start building!
This movie is going to help move a lot of LEGO sets off the shelves and roll in big bucks for LEGO. Just look at all these adorable figurines from the movie:
Don’t you have the urge to collect them all?
