The previous weekend, Rachel and I brought Asher to Amazonia Indoor Playground at Great World City mall to attend a SMART Living Family Workshop, organised by LG Singapore.

While Asher had fun in the indoor playground, Rachel and I took turn to sit in for the workshop to get some useful parenting tips.

One of the speaker at the event was Verleen Goh, a qualified nutritionist from Eat Right Singapore, sharing on food nutrition, food safety knowledge and how the  right home appliances can play a part in helping to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Verlyn Goh sharing nutritional tips

Some of her tips on refrigerating were really useful. I remember these:

    • Can you store bananas in the fridge? Yes. When they reach the ripeness you want, bananas can be stored in the fridge. The skin will turn black, however, the flesh will stay the same.
    • Ice cream should not be kept in the fridge for more than two months after you have opened the packaging. Just because it is frozen doesn’t mean it can be kept forever.
    • If you want to store salad in the fridge, make sure the vegetables are kept dry and separated from the sauces. Otherwise, it will turn sour really quickly.
    • Packed hams and sausages kept in the fridge should be consumed within a week after the packaging is opened.
    • Cookies and bread can be kept in the freezer to last longer. When you want to eat them, just heat them in the oven.

Useful?

Maybe these are common tips to those who cook regularly. For someone like me who hardly enter the kitchen, these were new information.

Now I can better organise my refrigerator
