Built in 1956, the state-owned fire station at Upper Bukit Timah with its distinctive red doors is the second Spruce restaurant (the first Spruce restaurant is located at Phoenix Park).
The restaurant occupies a 3,000 sq ft dining area with an indoor capacity of 150 people. There is an open bar and a large projector screen which showed football matches during the two visits when I was there.
I have not dined at their main restaurant in Phoenix Park, but Rachel and I quite like the food at Spruce at Fire Station. They serve modern American cuisine in a simple, neat menu.
We have dined there on two occasions using one-for-one main course vouchers from The Entertainer.
The Beef Short Ribs is highly recommended. We ordered it on both visits and gobbled up the steak to the very last morsel.
Some of the other dishes we tried:
The restaurant is not easily accessible by public transport. If you are driving, be careful not to miss the turn into the carpark or you will have to go one big round again as there is no U-turn nearby.
There is a good mix of family diners and pub crawlers on weekends. The restaurant is kids friendly with a kid’s menu and baby chairs available.
