nydc turns 17 – new menu with over 20 new items

Home-grown restaurant chain, nydc, known for its iconic mudpies, cheesecakes and quirky beverages turns 17 this year and will be commemorating this special occasion by launching more than 20 new food items.

“nydc started its first outlet in Holland Village 17 years ago on 18 September 1995 with the promise of serving ‘happy’ food whipped up from home-made recipes. Today, nydc is an established name in the marketplace and has since expanded to six outlets islandwide and six more outside of Singapore, and we could not have done it without the support of customers who come through our doors every day. For that, we want to thank them by not only introducing new fare but also bringing back two fan favorites: ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ‘The Picasso Pizza’,” said Ms. Wang Whee Min, General Manager, Group Retail Division, SUTL Corporation Pte Ltd, which owns nydc.

Perhaps to signify that nydc is now “grown-up”, there are several new alcohol-infused items in the menu, including Waldorf with a hic (Waldorf salad amped up with whisky), Drunken Masta’ (chunky seafood stew spiked with tequilla) and the XOXO mudpie.

Other additions include the minty-chocolate ‘Sealed with a Kiss’, the strawberry-tinged ‘3-some’, every choco- holic’s dream ‘Bring Me to the Dark Side’, the fruit-bombed ‘I’m Going Bananas’ and caffeine-laced ‘A Coffee Affair’.

Sounds good?

I brought Rachel and Asher to the nydc restaurant at Wheelock Place to try out the new menu:

Skinny Dip Chips (S$13.50) – Warm tortilla chips with spiced chili beef, blue cheese and artichoke blend dips
Left – Berry Freeze (S$6.80), Fresh mixed berries, lemonade and soda; Right – Nutty Cookie Cruncher (S$7.80), dditional shot of espresso, $1 Additional shot of Bailey’s, $3
Drunken Masta’ (S$16.80/$18.80/$20.80, depending on how much alcohol you want in it) – Chunky seafood stew of tiger prawns, dory fillet, clams and shell pasta, flamed and spiked with the heat of tequila.
Romeo & Juliet (S$11.90) – Crispy bacon stirred with sweet corn and hot herbed rice in nydc’s signature garlic mayo all topped with melty mozzarella.
A pasta for Asher from the kid’s menu
Sealed with a Kiss (S$11.80) – two layers of chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, caramel swirts, fudge, crunchy dark chocolate balls sandwiching a brownie in the seam, topped with mint kiss
3-some ($11.80) – Three layers made up of chocolate chip dough ice cream, strawberry ice cream and strawberry cheesecake ice cream, sandwiching cookie crumbs and graham crackers
XOXO ($11.80) – This has alcohol in it. Chocolate ice cream with fudge chunks, pretzel pieces, strawberry cheesecake ice ream and shots of Bailey’s

Rachel enjoyed the new Drunken Masta’ very much while I had a taste of nostalgia with the Romeo & Juliet. Asher was happy to munch on anything we ate (except the alcohol-infiused dish of course).

I have always enjoyed the dessert and beverages at nydc since my teenage years and they are still pretty good. More mudpie and quirky beverage additions to the menu can only be a good thing.

I did not know  ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ‘The Picasso Pizza (your own custom pizza) were taken off the menu, but I definitely appreciate nydc bringing them back again. I still remember ordering these items more than ten years ago!

Contrary to the impression that nydc is mainly a restaurant for teens, it does cater for family diners. They have baby chairs, food ware and a kid’s menu.

About nydc

nydc started in 1995 with the flagship outlet in Holland Village. Its American founders created nydc to be a place where people could connect, share their joy, let their hair down, enjoy great food, good friends. In the course, the founders fulfill their personal quests to share their deep love for food and reunite people regardless of their creed, nationality or food philosophy. nydc quickly became (and still is) a favourite haunt and meeting place of many; a chill-out pad for friends and family to share a meal or celebrate life’s little joys and sorrows over a slice of yummy mudpie. Today, nydc is part of Singapore-based lifestyle conglomerate SUTL Corporation Pte Ltd, and remains at its core a fun, dynamic and cosmopolitan F&B establishment known for its authentic entrees and iconic mudpies and cheesecakes.
