2fifteen Kitchen @ Rochester Mall

The restaurant is tucked in a corner unit on the second floor of Rochester Mall

Fine dining need not necessarily cause a hefty dent in your pocket anymore with the opening of 2fifteen Kitchenat Rochester Mall about two months back.

The restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Kenny Yeo. Kenny’s culinary skills were honed at Le Centenaire in France, a Michelin 3 Star Hotel, including some of Singapore’s top restaurants – Les Amis.

With more than 20 years of experience, Chef Kenny has helmed the French kitchens of restaurants such as JQ Concepts Pte Ltd in Taipei, Pine Tree Town and Country Club in Singapore. He was also the brainchild behind immaculately prepared menus for international and national key events such as Forbes Global CEO dinners, Barclays Open and the World Gourmet Summit and various private functions with reputable guests including Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

With such stellar credentials, Chef Yeo is a really friendly and humble person. When Rachel and I had lunch there the day before I left for Europe three weeks ago, Chef Yeo treated us to a sampler menu and even came out and had a casual chat with us.

Here is a picture of my family together with Chef Yeo:

Here are the items we ate:

Fresh bread and cranberry juice
Fremantle Octopus Leg with Citrus Oil, Ripen Tomato and Pearl Mango
I love this Fremantle Octopus! It’s as good at the one I had in Australia
Mushroom soup
Thick and creamy
Warm Salad of Duck Foie Gras with Grape Petite Salad & Raspberry Vinaigrette
Enjoying the sinful foie gras
Pan-seared Hokkaido Sea Scallop, braised Cannellini Bean & Lobster Bisque Foam
The scallop is lightly cooked to keep the soft texture
Confit of Salmon Roulade with Soft Herbs, Wild Rice, Hazelnut Oil and Poultry Jus
Slicing through the soft, tender salmon
Roasted Baby Lamb T-Bone, Braised Shoulder, Tomato, Italian Sauce

Close up of the dessert
Asher immediately indicated his interest in the dessert once it was served

Main course ranges from S$20 to S$130 for lunch. There is a good selection for all-day breakfast as well, starting from S$16. The full menu is available via the restaurant’s official website.

We had a really great lunch there. Good food, a quiet ambient and my family together with me to enjoy everything – life is great. It was an informal farewell lunch for me as I was flying off to Europe the next day and will be spending three whole weeks away from Rachel and Asher.

I love the Fremantle octopus which is squishy on the inside and a little crunchy on the outside making for an interesting combination of textures. The citrus oil, tomato and mango adds flavours and colours. Rachel loves it too.

The foie gras and scallop appertisers were fantastic, leaving Rachel and I craving for more after we gobbled up the servings.

For the main courses, the salmon and wild rice combination was interesting for Rachel while I enjoyed my heavy double serving of meat. We shared our dessert with Asher who was captivated by the bright colours of the dish.

The restaurant is easily accessible by public transport (walking distance from Buona Vista MRT station) or by car (there is a public car park nearby), even though the location is a little obscure.

What’s best about 2fifteen is it’s accessible pricing for fine dining and that it is baby-friendly (very important for me):

For their set lunches, 2 course costs S$28 and 3 course costs S$35 per pax. They also have a kids menu and breakfast is served till 6pm.
