Opened in July 2007 by owner Janice Yeo, Riders Café is one of Singapore’s most popular brunch spot. In fact, it is so popular that it is near impossible to get a table on weekend without advance reservation.
Weekend reservation has to be made weeks in advance and they do not take same day bookings for weekends and public holidays. All walk-in guests are seated from a wait list at a host stand.
Hidden somewhere behind the lush greenery in the heart of Bukit Timah, Riders Café is located in the same area as the Bukit Timah Saddle Club. Diners get to view people riding or walking their horses while eating. A pretty surreal experience in this concrete jungle.
Rachel and I went there with my parents on a weekday noon. Food cost came to around $50 per pax. A tad steep, like Mimo Kitchen + Bar which used to be located beside it.
There is no air-conditioning in the restaurant, probably to keep to the serene, nature theme; but it is well-ventilated. Ask for the balcony seats if they are available to get a clear view of the horse-riding activities and to enjoy the greenery.
The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. I believe most people came here for the ambience. The full menu is available online.
If you are interested to visit, my advise is to go during weekday lunch to avoid the crowd. If you prefer to go on weekends, make sure you call and make a reservation a few weeks in advance. The restaurant is not easily accessible by public transport. Be prepared to take a long, leisurely walk if you are not driving or taking a cab.
