Silk Road Restaurant (丝绸之路) @ The Amara

Inside Silk Road Restaurant

I got to dine at Silk Road Restaurant (丝绸之路) at The Amara during the Chinese New Year period, thanks to my generous aunt and uncle who invited our family for a CNY dinner gathering.

The restaurant belongs to the Amara group and serves Chinese fares hailing from the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, Liaoning and Beijing.

I am not a Chinese food connoisseur, but the dishes we had seemed to lean towards Sichuan flavours, generous with spices and oil. Mushrooms seem to appear in every dishes as well.

The Sichuan-style Yu Sheng, mixed with a spicy paste and an assortment of raw seafood seems promising, but turns out rather disappointing as the spicy sauce dilute the flavours of the other ingredients.

I am not a fan of strong, heavy flavours, hence most of the spicy dishes didn’t quite cut it for me. Nonetheless, the food was still good overall.

Oddly, what I particularly enjoyed was the dessert and the tea served, which are not really the focus of the meal.

Instead of the usual nuts, picked vegetable and beancurd were served as table snacks

Dried and fresh scallops on fish cakes

Mushrooms and sea cucumbers
Fried cod fish
I like the tea served which had an assortment of nuts, raisins and various goodies in it

Xue Ge or Hashima, boiled in papaya for dessert
