RED – Retired, Extremely Dangerous

Based on the cult D.C. Comics graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, RED is an action-comedy starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.

The movie is now showing in Singapore cinemas.

You know the term “老HERO” (old heroes)? Well, RED is about a group of such colourful individuals. The title RED is an acronym for Retired, Extremely Dangerous.

Thanks to the folks at Shaw, I got to watch the preview with a group of bloggers from the omy Blog Clubcheck out their reviews.

I am not a big fan of action movies, but I enjoyed RED. It was a refreshing change to see old folks kicking ass instead of the usual alpha-male type.

It also helps that the movie features a cast of award-winning veteran actors with superb acting chops to boast.

Helen Mirren and John Malkovich in their screen roles in RED

I particular like Helen Mirren’s character, Victoria, who is an elegant granny by day and contract killer by night. Mirren eases effortlessly into the role, in her usual graceful self.

John Malkovich was also a delight onscreen as  the eccentric Marvin with an acute phobia of technology and the constant nagging suspicion that the whole world is out to assassinate him.

Based on the DC Comics cult-favorite graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, RED is an explosive action-comedy starring Bruce Willis, Academy Award®-winner Morgan Freeman, Academy Award®-nominee John Malkovich and Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren.

Frank (Willis), Joe (Freeman), Marvin (Malkovich) and Victoria (Mirren) used to be the CIA’s top agents but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. The team, along with civilian Sarah (Parker) in-tow, embarks on an impossible cross-country mission to break into the topsecret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.
