Restylane and Plastic Surgery

Restylane – a widely used dermal filler

Once considered taboo, plastic surgery and facial enhancements are better accepted with changing times. I am neither for or against it as I see it as a personal choice. To me, plastic surgery is the same as other procedures that leave permanent marks on a person’s body like piercings and tattoos. The only difference is that people are less forthcoming about it – one will boast of a new tattoo for instance, but not botox injections.

The world of plastic surgery has always been a mystery to me and I believe for most Singaporeans too – given that those who underwent the knife, usually prefer to be shrouded in secrecy. The industry quietly goes about it business and outsiders barely get an accurate glimpse, beyond all the bad press on surgeries gone bad.

It was quite an experience for me when I got to meet up with two leading cosmetic surgeons and eye-witness an on-the-spot live demo of a facial enhancement procedure.

About a month back, I got to meet one of Korea’s leading maxillofacial surgeons, Dr Moon Hyoung Jin together with a bunch of omy.sg bloggers in a bloggers press conference jointly organised by omy.sg, Impressions PR and Q-Med to promote their Restylane product. Dr Moon has transformed the faces of thousands of Korean women, including celebrities.

Joining Dr Moon at the event was Dr Low Chai Ling, founder and Medical Director of The Sloane Clinic – a pioneer in the medical aesthetics field, attuned to the demands of both plastic surgery as well as non-invasive treatments. Dr Low is a mother of two btw – impossible to tell from her youthful features and hour-glass figure.

The two specialists in the field of beauty and facial treatments shed light on the popular trends in looking one’s best, safety issues and attitudes and perceptions among the public. Dr Low, a certified international master trainer for Restylane treatments, also demonstrated the use of this widely-used facial dermal filler on a patient to smoothen out facial wrinkle almost instantly.

The procedure was simpler than I had imagined, performed with just a syringe and nothing more. No knives were used, not much blood too. In fact, it was over in a couple of minutes. The patients did not even winced when the needles were poked into their faces and were able to still make conversation with the audience.

Quite an eye-opener I must say.

Suddenly, plastic surgery did not seem such a big deal after all. It kind of reminds me of the first time I got my ear pierced.

This is probably not something for me, but if you are interested to find out more about Restylane, you can check out the official website. If you are interested in plastic surgery, you may want to contact either Dr Moon or Dr Low. 🙂
