Tattoo-ed Fish: Cruel or Creative?

height=315

These tattoo-ed Molly fish are available at Qian Hu Fish Farm as well as other pet shops at between $3 to $5 a piece.

You can read the full story and watch all the vodcasts HERE on omy.sg.

Personally, I find it rather distasteful and cruel. I will not support buying of such fish and I hope others will follow suit. I have a feeling those who buy such fish tend to be number punters who will throw away or torture the fish if the numbers on their bodies do not strike 4D.

  • Ever seen painted tetras (aka disco fish) at the pet stores like Petsmart, Petco, etc? Those are also injected with a dye that gives them their stripes of color.
    It's pretty standard practice these days, in all parts of the world.

  • This is not right. Fish should not be tatooed for silly human urges. Tatooing fish is wrong and should count as animal cruelty. You don't see anyone in their backyards shaving their dogs and cats and tatooing stuff on them to sell them!!

  • It's not standard practice in the UK, it is (quite rightly) illegal here. Even if the fish survive- which many don't- the dye usually fades. Pointless, cruel and massively ugly. And that's just the people that buy them ;)

  • I object doing and participating in such cruelty. Buying is participating in a way, so I will not buy the fishes.
