Golden Village to Close Plaza Singapura Cinema After 28 Years, Launches Farewell Campaigns for Moviegoers

Golden Village has announced that its Plaza Singapura cinema will close after 28 years of operation as the mall prepares for a major redevelopment. The cinema will wind down operations in phases, with six halls screening their final movies on 2 August 2026, while the remaining halls will continue operating until the cinema’s final day on 16 August 2026.

Since opening in 1998, Golden Village Plaza Singapura has become one of Singapore’s best–known cinemas, welcoming generations of moviegoers for blockbuster releases, film festivals and special screenings. The location has also become a popular destination for anime fans over the years, hosting numerous anime movie premieres and community events that brought fans together.

To thank patrons for their support, Golden Village is launching a series of farewell initiatives celebrating the memories created at the cinema.

From 1 July to 16 August 2026, moviegoers can participate in the “Share Your GV Plaza Memories” contest by following @gvmovieclub on Instagram and sharing their favourite memory, movie or experience at GV Plaza Singapura. Entries must include at least one photo or video, tag @gvmovieclub and use the hashtag #ThankYouGVPlaza. Participants must also keep their Instagram accounts public throughout the campaign period.

One winner will receive an exclusive private cinema screening at GV Cineleisure for up to 60 guests. The prize includes the screening of a selected movie from a list provided by Golden Village, with screenings taking place on weekday evenings between 17 August and 31 October 2026, subject to hall availability, movie rights and distributor approval. Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality and their connection to GV Plaza, with the winner notified through Instagram direct message.

Golden Village is also giving away 10,000 complimentary regular popcorn or regular Coca-Cola vouchers. Customers who purchase two or more movie tickets in a single online transaction for any screening at GV Plaza Singapura between 1 July and 16 August 2026 through the GV website or mobile app will stand a chance to receive an email voucher. Walk in purchases are not eligible.

The vouchers can be redeemed between 17 August and 31 October 2026 when purchasing two movie tickets at any of Golden Village’s 16 cinema locations. The giveaway is limited to the first 10,000 eligible patrons selected to receive the rewards.

Although GV Plaza Singapura will soon close its doors, moviegoers can continue enjoying the Golden Village experience at nearby locations including GV Cineleisure, GV Bugis, GV Funan, GV Grand and GV City Square, along with the cinema chain’s other outlets across Singapore. Golden Village said it remains committed to providing quality cinema and entertainment experiences and looks forward to welcoming audiences at its remaining cinemas across the island.
